AIBU to want to get all the work done now?

We (me, DH, 2dc) have lived in our house about 5 years. It really needs doing up. I’ve got various quotes but DH always says they are trying to rip us off and won’t go for it (although never gets a quote himself…)

We won’t live here forever (maybe 7 more years max) as we’d like each dc to have their own room when they are older so we will want to move. So my thinking is get all the work done now and enjoy it, so I got quotes for that but DH says they are trying to rip us off (new kitchen, remove chimney new conservatory, new loo, new flooring, doors, skirting, painting, bannister, lighting - £80k) but I think its ok.

His suggestion is just remove the chimney (will leave area with no/mismatched flooring and he’ll think about what to do after that but won’t be coming up with a plan until then. AIBU to think that’s a terrible idea. Surely my idea of getting it all done makes more sense (and we do have the money - mostly from my savings).

If we don’t do it all now, I can’t face years of an unfinished home and having work done and then selling. I think I’d prefer to just save the money for a forever home I can feel proud of…

If you're already planning on moving in the near future I dont see the point in bothering with the hassle of it all to be honest

7 years is a LONG time to be spending in a house you're not happy with though ...

Honestly, i’m really unhappy with the place. Kitchen and bathrooms from well before we moved in. Other stuff just what we could afford at the time. I just want a house I enjoy being in.
