To go and get my cakes back !

Yesterday I sent in a big, professionally made cake into school to celebrate the last week of term for DD. It was expensive, but I can’t bake so worth it.

They didn’t give it out yesterday - a boy had brought a birthday cake in so fair enough.

Last day for DD today, and on pick up DD said they’d forgotten to give it out, so she sent me back in to get it.

So I’m sat here with a giant cake between the 3 of us. Should I have just left it for the staff and other year groups next week ?

You can freeze portions of cake. They sound like they've got cake coming out of their ears.
Take the cake home.
Eat cake.

Touchtoomuch · 16/07/2021 18:25

Sorry I know I probably shouldn't but this has made me laugh. Just eat yourselves. That's breakfast lunch and dinners sorted for the new few days Grin

cansu · 16/07/2021 18:26

Personally I would have given to staff room. Seems v odd to bring it back.

Touchtoomuch · 16/07/2021 18:26

Next*

Hoppinggreen · 16/07/2021 18:26

I get the sentiment behind the gesture but I’ve never known anyone do that before, it’s a bit unusual,
Still, you’ve got cake though

Justmuddlingalong · 16/07/2021 18:26

Don't panic. Put the kettle on, I'm leaving now.

SpacePotato · 16/07/2021 18:27

YANBU going and getting it but YABU to spend a lot of money getting a special cake made just because it's the summer hols.

NailsNeedDoing · 16/07/2021 18:28

Eat the cake, enjoy the cake, and next time send in something that’s easier for them to share out.

NoProblem123 · 16/07/2021 18:37

@Justmuddlingalong LoL you’re very welcome - we’ll be eating it until September!

DD birthday isn’t in term time so I always sent something in on the last week. Cake overload I guess !

What's your address? I'll bring my own plate.

Penistoe · 16/07/2021 18:37

On my way.

eccecc · 16/07/2021 18:38

I'd have left it for the staff but oh well, time to start eating!

coodawoodashooda · 16/07/2021 18:40

Its quite normal for cake to get sent in at the end of term. I think you should have left it there.

eccecc · 16/07/2021 18:40

I'm wondering if they did actually forget? We can only give out supermarket cake with allergens on the box in our school. Always feel bad sending away beautiful, handmade cakes.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 16/07/2021 18:40

Never ever in my life did I realise there's such a thing as too much cake. 🎂

lncessantnamechanga · 16/07/2021 18:41

YANBU, I think you did the right thing. It would have gone stale over the weekend.

BrilliantBetty · 16/07/2021 18:42

Never heard of cake getting sent in at the end of term.

Nice gesture but quite unnecessary, time consuming and potentially messy for the teacher.

Enjoy your cake!

pinkcircustop · 16/07/2021 18:43

YABU. I think it’s weird that you sent the cake in in the first place and even more weird that you went back in to get it Confused

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/07/2021 18:44

A family member had a milestone date not long ago and received a gift of a huge cake. Fortunately there was freezer space, and I gather it took months of diligent effort to get through it all, but they managed it in the end. Grin (From the waste not, want not generation - lockdown prevented simply handing it out to friends and neighbours.)

Underbox · 16/07/2021 18:45

YABU to send a big professionally made cake into a school!
YANBU to retrieve it when they didn't distribute it to the kids.
I wouldn't bother to send in a cake next time. Or ever.

On a practical note, cut the unappreciated cake into smaller chunks and freeze it.

Staffy1 · 16/07/2021 18:53

Cut a quarter of it for yourselves and send the rest back, if that doesn’t seem too weird now that you’ve already taken it back.

catzrulz · 16/07/2021 18:54

@Justmuddlingalong

Don't panic. Put the kettle on, I'm leaving now.
Wait for me. I'll be ready in 2.
MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 16/07/2021 18:59

I really really need cake now and might nip out to the corner shop.

Bettysnow · 16/07/2021 19:03

Maybe give some to neighbours? That would be a nice thing to doSmile

Dohrehmee · 16/07/2021 19:07
