What to do instead of wedding guestbook?

We’re only having a small wedding so won’t fill a book but we want something!
We’ve seen the fingerprint trees/Jenga blocks etc and they’re not really for us, but we can’t come up with anything else!

Can anyone help?

We had guests sign a picture frame mount and then framed one of our favourite wedding photos with it. It’s still hanging 15yrs later so it’s been looked at far more than a guest book.

BeardieWeirdie · 15/07/2021 22:36

I don’t see the point of a guest book where people write congratulations etc - they give cards saying the same thing.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 15/07/2021 22:39

Polaroid on a tabl e?

Blippibloppi · 15/07/2021 22:39

We didn't do anything. I know who was there. They sent cards. I have photos.

I've never written in a guestbook sober so god knows what bollocks marriage advice I've been sharing over the years.

Pengwyn · 15/07/2021 22:41

We had the mini sticker Polaroid pictures. People took photos and stuck in a book and most wrote something underneath

It was a drunken affair so very funny to look back on.

saturdaynightgin · 15/07/2021 22:43

We had the same worry. We ordered from a shop on Etsy called WeddingbyEli that does large wooden initials that your guests can sign. We plan on putting it on the wall somewhere in the house Smile

Roomarmoset · 15/07/2021 22:45

We put a bottle on the table and some post it notes, we asked everyone to write some advice/jokes/wisdom and said we'd keep the bottle closed until our first wedding anniversary.

As they were post it notes people couldn't write a lot but most of them were very funny. My Nan did one and she passed away not long after I got married and it's the most treasured thing I have 🥰

sweeneytoddsrazor · 15/07/2021 22:46

What about one of those large colouring pictures where everyone colours in a little bit

headintheproverbial · 16/07/2021 07:47

We framed a photo from our engagement shoot (offered by the wedding photographer) and everyone signed the mount. As said upstairs it's something which I look at every day - sometimes I just walk past and sometimes I'll stop and ready some of the messages and smile. Especially the ones from, eg, my mother in law who is no longer with us.

RampantIvy · 16/07/2021 07:50

I didn't know they were a "thing".

We just got cards from everyone.

WhyMeLord · 16/07/2021 07:58

We bought some wooden christmas tree decorations and people wrote messages on those, it's nice to get them out each year and have a read of them again.

Waspsarearseholes · 16/07/2021 15:42

We bought one of those frames with a slot in the top and wooden hearts for people to write on and post in the slot.

Uramaki · 16/07/2021 15:42

Polaroid camera is a great idea

Boood · 16/07/2021 15:46

We had little chalkboards and asked people to put pictures and messages on them and take a selfie. The ones we got were really nice but a lot of people didn’t bother- I think it was too complicated when you’re a bit drunk.

Ineedtorant · 16/07/2021 16:00

I had a couple of ceramic serving dish things and some special pens that the guests used to write on them, then you bake the dishes and it stays on

Love this idea!

We ordered large wooden letters from the big wooden letter company online..... We primed them and painted cream (you cna get pre painted letters, this just kept the cost down) and we had guests sign the letters.... We also got mini letters to put on our sweet table just as decoration.

We have the signed letters up on the family room wall and the smaller letters up on the wall of our bathroom.... Way better than a guest boom as both get looked at every day.

Littleone638 · 16/07/2021 16:12

We had little wooden hearts that we put in a frame, you can also get frames with a slot cut in to drop them straight into. Ours is on the wall in the hall and I love it, there’s silly messages, pictures, random in jokes and lovely heartfelt messages and it sums up our day and our friends/family so well. We have a picture of the church where we got married which was drawn by a friend of my dads and our names/date in the frame as well.

HereComesYourMam · 16/07/2021 16:26

We did the Polaroid camera thing + got some small stickers and coloured pens so people could decorate and write on them.

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 16/07/2021 16:48

I like the Polaroid camera idea and give them somewhere to write.

We had a guestbook and you can tell when people got really drunk, the stuff they wrote is really funny and it makes me laugh looking at it now.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 16/07/2021 17:17

We had Polaroids - but I’m not sure how keen people would be to do it now, with Covid, and the venue might not be keen on something being passed around.

We did also spend a small fortune on film and a good third of the photos were drunken nothingness.

We had a custom guestbook from Etsy with fewer pages, people enjoyed writing memories of the night in there, rather than just congratulations etc. The messages have been quite nice to read back since!

newnortherner111 · 16/07/2021 17:19

I agree with the suggestion of Polaroids.

Hope you have a wonderful day.

CactusPat · 16/07/2021 17:22

We had little marriage advice cards at every place setting and everyone filled one out. Worked nicely when people were waiting for dinner and also as a bit of an ice breaker for tables where there were a mix of people who didn’t know each other. We had a guest book too but fewer people managed to sign that!

OhNoNoNoNoNo · 16/07/2021 17:23

I wouldn’t do anything. People put a lot of thought into their cards and then you have photos to remember who is there.

VickyEadieofThigh · 16/07/2021 17:44

Not have one.
