School sent FSM vouchers

I had a message from school to say parents with DC on FSM will be getting supermarket vouchers! I nearly cried! I didn't think we would get any vouchers as the council said they are providing holiday clubs instead. My DD gets very anxious so I've signed her up for 1 out of a possible 4 weeks (Mon to Thurs for 4 hours a day) and that will be enough for her but obviously no FSM on the rest of the 7 weeks.
Money is so tight and that extra bit will make the world of difference. For those who raise awareness of school holiday hunger - thank you.

I'm so happy for you. This is great news. It's horrible that people have to struggle like this. I have no children, but have been on the arse end of universal credit before. It's horrendous.

Cryalot2 · 15/07/2021 17:58

So happy for you.

saraclara · 15/07/2021 18:00

Yay!

I'm so sorry that you have to worry like this. But I'm so glad that you have the vouchers after all.

Anyone who doubts the campaign that resulted in this provision should just read your OP and see your relief in every word.

Fabulous ☺️

Motnight · 15/07/2021 18:01

That is brilliant news, Op!

UndertheCedartree · 15/07/2021 18:02

Thank you - yes, such a relief. Just to say it is our school who are providing the vouchers not the council so no idea if parents of other schools will get them. Our school is fantastic!

I’m very glad you’re getting them, I hope it makes things a bit easier this summer Smile

Orchidflower1 · 15/07/2021 18:06

That’s great news that you’ve got them op but sorry you’re in the situation that requires them.
Yanbu - not quite sure why some have voted you are?!

MotionActivatedDog · 15/07/2021 18:06

Who on earth has pressed “YABU”?? Confused why??

saraclara · 15/07/2021 18:06

Posting again to say that I'm grinning! Seems like your school and Tesco have got together on this. They probably realised that the council response was excluding children who can't access holiday club for some reason.

But with all the miserable news around at the moment, it's so lovely to see that good people are doing something that helps other good people, and relieves their worries a little.

Bluetoybear · 15/07/2021 18:06

So so pleased for you Smile this government is finelly getting its arse into gear!.. People are struggling!

LakieLady · 15/07/2021 18:06

YANBU at all, it must be such a relief.

It's bloody disgusting though, that, in what is still one of the world's richest countries, there are still families who need help feeding their children.

My family were very poor during my early years, but back in the 1950s/1960s, benefits were enough to live on and keep a roof over your head.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 15/07/2021 18:07

The LA i work in are providing £15 a week vouchers for fsm children

KarmaStar · 15/07/2021 18:09

Pleased for you op,must be such a relief!💐
I reckon the person who selected Yabu is one of the who say if you can't afford to feed them you should not have them brigade!Hmm

feellikeanalien · 15/07/2021 18:10

Our local council are providing a voucher to cover food and also school uniform.

We have a lot to thank Marcus Rashford for.

I'm really pleased for you OP. It can make such a difference to get the vouchers. Hope it makes your summer more enjoyable.

saraclara · 15/07/2021 18:11

The YABU is probably an error. Let's not focus on that in what is such a happy thread!

UndertheCedartree · 15/07/2021 18:14

I didn't mean to leave the vote up! Blush

@saraclara - yes, it feels good to know there are people who care! And this thread is making me happy too with everyone's lovely messages - thank you!

Ah I'm so glad! Hopefully this is setting up for the same to happen every school holiday. We can only hope!

UndertheCedartree · 15/07/2021 18:20

@feellikeanalien - that's brilliant! And yes very thankful to Marcus Rushford - a remarkable young man. I'm looking forward to taking my DC for a lovely picnic in the park this Summer. We have a sculpture trail here of Hares over the Summer - we can pack up a packed lunch and that will be a fun free activity Smile

Excellent. Things like this and the bonus introduced last year should stay. So many families have found the extra incredibly helpful and after getting it for over a year it's going to be incredibly hard when it all comes to an end. Hope more pressure is put on the government to keep these increases to help lift people out of poverty. I

People shouldn't be living in conditions where there choice is pay gas, electric, rent,ct or eat. You only have to look at the average gas and electric use then look at benefit payments and the shortfall is obvious. It shouldn't be a choice between topping up the mobile cos it's a condition of UC or buy their child food. Never mind trying to then find money for interviews which although can be refunded if takes time to process. Not much help next month when you need it this month.

Our LA our supplying 5 weeks at £15 per week so our school is making up the difference so families have vouchers for the whole holiday.

TotorosCatBus · 15/07/2021 18:25

Very pleased for you x

saraclara · 15/07/2021 18:26

This thread is making me want to go and get a trolley full of stuff for the foodbank. I imagine that they're going to be under extra pressure through the holidays.
