To wonder what the current job market is like?

I've had a bit of a weird experience with applying for jobs. Last year as a recent graduate I applied to hundreds of jobs and barely heard anything back. A year later and I decided to apply to 5 jobs that interested me and I have heard back from them all with invites for interviews. My CV has barely changed in that time so it's not me. The job market seems a lot different at the moment.

Is this a widespread/known thing at the moment?

Depends on the industry really?!

In my anecdotal experience of the job market during the pandemic, there seems to be greater competition for lower paid or less skilled jobs, and a lack of skilled professionals in some industries. It's probably down to the fact that university students have stayed at home instead of crowding into uni towns and cities, and that lots of hospitality venues are operating with fewer staff/ aren't open yet.

On the other hand I think there may have been a bit of a brain drain in some sectors which were previously filled by skilled foreign workers.
