GP in one country, vaccinated in another... No record of jab

I work in the NHS in Wales. I had my second vaccination back in March. NHS England seem to have no record of this. My vaccination card has been scanned in to my GP notes but because it wasn't given by NHS England it's not appearing on the app or my electronic records. Infact NHS England are still inviting me to be vaccinated.

I know I'm not alone in this.

My GP practice has no idea how to resolve it.

Has anyone else managed to unpick it?

Is it the same issue if you live in Wales but work for NHS England? And is it similar over the Scottish border?

won't having a third just give you slightly more immunity?
I thought trials had started on having a third vaccine as a booster - if you work for NHS, can't you access trial information, or your GP do that?

So has the GP practice recorded it in the correct way (scanning the card on isn't enough) and you have full online record access but it's still not being recognised?

GP doesn't have a way to record vaccinations. They have no idea how to do it "the correct way". It's one if the reasons I was asking - to see if anyone else's GP had found a way to do it.

The GP practice need to contact their information team - this is usually part of the commissioning support unit or the CCG that the are a part of.
Hopefully it's a simple issue there they can get advice on how to code it into the system.

There might be something more complex like information sharing agreements - the NHS can be very overzealous with data protection and it can cause a lot of problems (sometimes more serious).

Either way you shouldn't be chasing it up. It's important that the correct information is on your record incase there are concerns over the vaccine in the future or it impacts your treatment in some way if you were to contact COVID.
The GP needs to be responsible for this - patients cannot be experts in maintaining health records!

I wanted to be clear on what the actual problem was before offering advice.

We can record covid vaccines given elsewhere on our system but some need to be done on a central portal. Someone at your practice should be able to deal with it either way. If you can't get anywhere you'll need to speak to the practice manager because that's not good enough. They have a responsibility to keep accurate records.
Ideally it's someone on the data team/summariser that you need to speak to initially.

I've had the same problem. My GP practice told me that they can only change their records, but they cannot add it to the central NHS record because they have no way of accessing the Pinnacle IT system.

I called the NHS covid folks (twice) and they insisted that they cannot do anything and that the GP has to do it. Back to GP surgery - nope, no can do. In the end I had another vaccination...

Blossomsbloom · 18/07/2021 06:56

That's terrible, all GP practices have been told how to add the vaccinations onto the central system but can also add it directly onto the GP system now too. I would ask to speak to the practice manager.

Thank you Blossom. That's really helpful. I shall try that.

NHS app in England has been updated and now carries vaccination info from Wales!

NHS app in England has been updated and now carries vaccination info from Wales!
But what about the reverse; people who are registered with a Welsh GP but have had one or both jabs in England? The NHS app doesn't work unless you're registered with an English GP. Come the autumn, will fully vaccinated Welsh people be prevented to going to gigs or clubs in England because they can't prove it? This really needs to get sorted out before then!

I had the same issue - it was on my GPs records i had had the jab but wasn’t showing on the NHS app. It did finally appear after a month so I’m not sure if there was a backlog of someone inputting data or me reporting it to the GP surgery meant they did something (my husband’s done on the same day also took a month to appear).
