Depo Shot & Aftermath

So will start from the beginning, had a medical termination 14TH FEB 21, Mar 15 got the depo injection, was due the next one around JUNE 11, but missed this due to moving house and having problems even getting an appointment at the surgery, so as it stands I've not had the second shot.

The whole time since starting the injection was on and off bleeding, not any heavy bleeding as such, I'd say a light-medium throughout. And probably for the whole 12 weeks I had 2-3 weeks where I wasn't bleeding spaced out.
I've currently been bleeding for almost three weeks now, started heavy and now it's heavy when I first wake up but then barely anything through the day. I'm almost always tired aswell, constantly have low energy all day.

I took a pregnancy test 23/6 so I could confirm with DRS to enable me to get a second shot- was negative. Also had sex 23/6 used an extra safe condom. Finally got hold of the DRS today through pushdoctor; she wants STI checks ( only ever had one partner in my life ) pregnancy tests, blood tests, ultrasounds, this has panicked me, and upon googling I'm seeing cervical cancer, I should mention I'm 21 this year, and I have a two year old daughter.

AIBU to be scared of all these tests?
Anyone had issues like this with depo?

The depo is horrible.
I had 2 lots of it and bled for most of the 6 months I was on it. It also made me put on loads of weight. I imagine your issues are related to the injection rather than anything more sinister

@dementedpixie thank you for replying, I'm hoping so, I think it's because I expected the doctor to just say it's due to the depo, I just feel terrible all the time, bleeding everyday, always tired, stomach always feels a bit weird. And now my appetite is going away too, but I have not long got over an illness aswell. I'm just waiting for doctors to bring me in for all these tests.

Doctors will never confirm that problems are caused by contraceptives. I had the same issues with the Mirena coil and no doctor ever agreed with me

Doctors will never confirm that problems are caused by contraceptives

Yes it a weird one. Ive never taken any form of contraception,(pills, coil, shots ect) but I have always had some non serious hormonal issues.
I've seen different doctors who have announced at first mention of my problem..that it could be due to my form of contraception as they mess with hormones....when I tell them I'm not on any .. they say to go on them to sort my hormonal issues Grin very confusing.

I hope you get to the bottom of it op ! Flowers

I've been having it for 15 years with no issues.

I did read the 'makes you put on weight' thing and asked a specialist in contraception about it. They said there's no evidence for it and weight gain is more likely to be due to lifestyle factors. I didn't believe it so came off it for two years to experiment and can confirm that the Dr was right and it's not the depo keeping me at this weight. Grin

Studies have shown it can make you gain weight
It can also delay rerurn to fertility so if you want children in the future it's something to think about
It can also cause your bones to thin so if you're on it long term you'd be advised to get your bone density checked.

Hi, definitely no plans for any children. Weight gain isn't an issue as I've not gained any.

I'm purely worried about the constant bleeding and the pains in my right side and left side, which come and go. Hopefully all tests are clear, I did look of some forums and there seems fuck off be a change of ingredient in the depo started in 2020. Which causes disruption with the bleeding.
