To 'fess up to breaking the bed?

We are in a holiday cottage let to us by a friend of DH. Having a great time and we have got a really good deal on it

DH friend is retired and only lets holiday home to friends and family in order to cover essential costs.

On our 2nd night we were DTD and the bed totally collapsed Blush. It's a steel frame and the legs just buckled. We are totally mortified.

DH is a tradesman and has managed to fix it very neatly using bolts on all 4 legs (was just welded previously) and has strengthened it with metal resin stuff. It feels much more solid now and the repair can't be seen at all when covered by mattress & bedding.

Would you say anything to the owner? Part of me thinks honesty is the best policy whilst I am just so embarrassed that I'd rather say nothing. If it wasn't repaired to a high standard then of course we would own up and offer to replace the frame. I'm completely torn and don't know what to do!

Nah! If it’s a good fix. What are you fess up to. Having a good shag?

StoneofDestiny · 12/07/2021 21:34

Just tell them the bed was buckled when you got there and you have repaired it for them. No way has 2 nights in a bed caused the damage.

EmRata95 · 12/07/2021 21:37

Don't say anything Grin

ohshititscollapsed · 12/07/2021 21:37

Good point, I could say I noticed it was wobbly when making the bed up on arrival...

I'm sure he'd wonder why i never mentioned it when he phoned or even why DH didn't call him and say. I hate lying!!

The first time I stayed at DH's parents' holiday home (way before we were married), I managed to break the bed. I wasn't doing anything dodgy (and DH was in a different bed), it just collapsed beneath me while I was asleep so these things happening. Slightly embarrassing one to explain to your relatively new boyfriend's parents though...

MrsBobDylan · 13/07/2021 11:32

You have done the owner a favour, just tell him!

MrsBobDylan · 13/07/2021 11:43

Not that you broke it while shagging though Grin

MrsToothyBitch · 13/07/2021 11:45

Say you reinforced the frame because DH noticed it was a bit wobbly, had the skills to rectify it & you both wanted to do something nice to thank him.

I wouldn't say damn thing about it breaking if you've successfully hidden the damage.

I think it is a common problem with metal frame beds. Check the label and see what the Crescendo Limit is. Often they are only 7, a good bed will be 12.

It is always worth asked the salesman about this when buying a new bed.

Is this a sneaky boast? :)

Bargebill19 · 13/07/2021 12:23

Say nothing. It’s been repaired to a higher standard than it was. Just never get drunk in the friends company if alcohol gives you loose lips…..!

Honeyroar · 13/07/2021 12:28

If they’re not going to notice it when changing the beds no I’d not say anything. They’ll probably never notice.

SummerHouse · 13/07/2021 12:35

I would just say the bed buckled and we fixed it. You're welcome.

Otherwise it might look like a stealth bed fix a sex fest cover up.

ohshititscollapsed · 15/07/2021 09:28

Home tonight and going to mention it when giving keys back. Just going to say that we noticed it was broken/wobbly on arrival so fixed it before using.

Next time we fancy a shag in a bed that's not ours we will check that it's a divan Grin

I wouldn’t mention it personally 🤷🏻‍♀️, they’re unlikely to notice and it sounds like your DH has done them a favour.

cindarellasbelly · 15/07/2021 09:30

I would mention it because otherwise they'll twig it at some point in the future, maybe a year or two, and it will confuse and freak them out wondering when it could have happened. At least if you DH has the skills they'll know its been done properly
