To be confused re track and trace - not all of us pinged

Dreaded ping arrived yesterday. Identified had been to a pub last Thursday and someone there at same time has since tested positive.

Dhs app hasn’t pinged. Spoke to couple we were there with and they haven’t pinged either. All four of signed in.

I therefore now have to legally self
Isolate for ten days and they don’t. Yet we were all there same place same time.

What the heck?

Oh ffs just delete the app and carry on with ur life.

This thread is just going to consist of everyone saying

  1. you don't legally have to isolate from an app notification
  2. it's test and trace, track and trace is a post office service

I doubt you'll get any useful answers tbh! But YANBU that it's ridiculous!

dizzydizzydizzy · 12/07/2021 18:00

Bad luck! Hope you don't catch it. Pretty sure the app pings are not legally enforceable. If Test and Trace phones you, it is legally enforceable.

Gunpowder · 12/07/2021 18:01

Maybe you were in the loo at the same time as the positive person? The app pings aren’t legally enforceable. I wouldn’t worry too much but would avoid vulnerable relatives/friends etc and have a low tolerance for getting a PCR test (sore throat, runny nose etc.)

SlipperyLizard · 12/07/2021 18:02

The app uses Bluetooth to determine whether you were close enough to someone else who later tests positive. Perhaps the person who tested positive was sat just within Bluetooth range of your phone, but not the others?

Who knows, but there’s no legal requirement to isolate if the app pings you, so you could just ignore it.

Lazypuppy · 12/07/2021 18:03

You don't have to legally isolate based on app. Maybe the others have the contact tracing turned off?

TotorosCatBus · 12/07/2021 18:04

You legally have to self isolate if T&T phone you. The app is not part of the legal requirement to self isolate.

DinosaurDiana · 12/07/2021 18:05

A man I know has tested positive, his partner hasn’t pinged yet .

gamerchick · 12/07/2021 18:07

The app and test and trace are different. You do get a code to put into the app if you test positive but it's not a legal grounding. More in the hope people will do the right thing.

TheGenealogist · 12/07/2021 18:07

You don't have to "legally" do anything.

I wouldn't isolate in the situation you are describing.

Unanananana · 12/07/2021 18:15

The app is not legally enforceable and not fit for purpose. I don't know many people who could afford to take ten days off work because the app (which has no direct connection to Test and Trace) says so. Unless you have a secure WFH job, I wouldn't even consider it.

I would ignore it, delete it and go about my life. Take LFTs daily if you are worried. Stupid bloody app.
