Not really an AIBU but I'm racking my brain trying to figure out what to buy for a 3yo girls birthday, budget is £0-20 - please help - what's good at the moment!? And why is it so hard to buy children's presents!

Magnet tiles! My 3 yr old got them, and then I gave some to my neice. They're fab and can be very versatile and played with for years. You can get a good starter set for under £20 on Amazon.

Sticker sets
Books
Playdoh - they do "sets" like pizza, hairstyling, dinosaurs, ice cream
Washimals
Jewellery/bead craft set - try Baker Ross for cheap ones
Duplo
Bubble gun with bubbles

Crayons & a notepad
Play doh
Washable paints
Stickers

Ask the parents? At that age DS2 would have wanted a piece of wooden train kit (BigJigs have some glorious bits in that price range) and DS1 was into Lego Junior.

Ah brill some great ideas thanks everyone - if anyone has any more please share! Stickers seem to be a big hit! So might look into that one!

I'd also recommend magnet tiles! My niece still plays with hers at six. She loves stickers but her parents sigh any time she's given some, so I'd probably recommend buying something that can't be stuck all over the furniture!

Books are always a hit but obviously difficult to know which the family already has. My DS will be 3 in October and he loves the gruffalo so anything gruffalo themed would be a massive hit. Hard to say without knowing the child but generic gifts would be things like play doh, crayons and colouring book, duplo, a nice wooden toy (DS loves his trains and cars).

Melissa and Doug wooden food is good - the birthday cake and cookie sets we're very popular with my two.

I always think 3y is the traditional age for “you may now use small toys”, so a great age for the first Lego set.

Gift cards for parents sound like a great idea, actually. If these are good friends of yours, you can book a family photoshoot for them. There are many photographers who do cute family shootings and even do some additional things like Smartshow 3d slides with the best pics. See if people are down for that first, but that could make lots of fun memories.
