Fexofenadine side effects

Posting here for traffic (I don't usually do this so hope it's ok)

DS13 recently been prescribed fexofenadine as cetirizine not cutting it this year. He also has sodium cromoglicate drops and beconase spray.

Last week he was off school for two days with headache, extreme fatigue, feeling sick and dizzy. Temp was 38 once but 37 ish every other time. Negative PCR test.

This week he was off for two days with the same symptoms, another negative PCR test. Sent him back to school only for the nurse to send him home at lunchtime then another day off.

I've just looked at the fexofenadine leaflet and it lists headache, drowsiness, nausea and dizziness as common side effects! Bloody hell! I wish it occurred to me sooner!

He's been taking it for 21 days. Will these side effects settle down or should I ask GP for something different?

Thank you!

All antihistamines caused these side effects to a certain extent, the newer ones (like fexofenadine) less so as they don't cross the blood brain barrier so well, but there will always be a balance between anti allergy & side effects & different ones affect people differently (my DS can't take loratidine). I don't know if these things settle down but there may be a different one the doctor can prescribe? I would speak to the GP (I would think a temp would be unexpected though?)

Thanks. I'll call the GP.
