Home care- anybody do/done it?

I work in a residential home currently but changing to domiciliary care. It’s a zero hours contract but I’ve been told that there is plenty of work going and that everybody who wants full time work gets it.

Would be interested to hear from people who’ve done it or currently do it and how it was for you. Was there much lone working? I’m hoping there is as I much prefer working alone with being introverted, though I know there will be doubles too.
I don’t drive but I will just be working in one small town.

I did it in the past, for a few different employers. I ended up having to be available from 7am till 10pm and beyond to actually get my hours in. I only wanted 8 hrs a day but must slots were 20 mins or 30 mins. I was not paid travelling time in between slots. And I obviously wasn't paid for the gaps between slots. Sometimes I'd have two consecutive slots from 7 am and then nothing till 11 or even later. It was infuriating. And most places ask you to do training in your own time, or attend training for two weeks including shadowing another member of staff, and you would not get paid for this time until you'd been there and worked for a month (or two in one case!) by this time, I'd realised it wasn't going to work for me so I never actually got paid for the training.
I am certain there are places that are way better than this, but in my neck of the woods, there aren't.
