Are you addicted to coffee?

Burnt0utMum · 10/07/2021 08:11

I clearly have an addiction and drink at least 4 cups a day. When I don't drink it I have no energy at all and feel awful. Trying to cut back but it's so hard when I feel this tired and have lots to do. Anyone else rely on coffee this much?

Well I don't drink 4 but I do have 2-3 sometimes. I immediately put the coffee on the stove when I wake up...and I grind the beans fresh every day so it's a palava but I can't stand instant.

I have two before I leave for work and then another at about 11.

I have sometimes bought decaf beans and ground half decalf and half 'real' but it's not as good!

DynamoKev · 10/07/2021 09:27

Yes

OwlinaTree · 10/07/2021 09:27

Yes. 2 cups in the morning, one at lunchtime, one about 4pm. I'm alright about it though.

ThursdayWeld · 10/07/2021 09:29

Good, freshly ground coffee is a health drink. There are loads of benefits from it.

Just don't drink it after about 2pm!

RubyFowler · 10/07/2021 09:38

Caffeine generally, yes.
I've decided not to worry about it, I'm otherwise healthy, not overweight, never smoked, don't drink much at all.... its not the worst addiction to have!

lazylinguist · 10/07/2021 09:40

Cut down gradually or try decaf/half caf. I only drink decaf these days because aa I've got older, proper coffee makes me jittery and anxious rather than awake and energised, and I sleep worse even if I only drink one coffee in the morning!

Cabinfever10 · 10/07/2021 09:47

Not a coffee drinker as it gives me migraines, but I have a bad tea addiction 10-15 cups per day 😳 it's so bad that my kids even know not to pester me before I've had my 1st cup of tea. I do get up 30 minutes before anyone else so I can have it in peace

sophiasnail · 10/07/2021 10:34

I probably drink about 8-10 cups per day. The first 2 are regular and the rest decaf. I don't regularly consume any other liquids.

thepeopleversuswork · 10/07/2021 10:40

I am yes.

To be honest, I can't be bothered stressing about it.

I can't really see the rationale for coming off it if you enjoy it and its doing you no harm.

Crystal meth or cigarettes, yes. Coffee? What harm is it doing?

I've heard people argue that it can help with sleep etc but its so marginal it hardly seems worth the grief of the cold turkey.

Lagomtransplant · 10/07/2021 10:51

Yes, without shame or remorse. Nothing better than a steaming cup of coffee.

And it beats tea, hands down, in my scandinavian eyes.

(Runs for cover)

TheFoundations · 10/07/2021 10:54

Yeah, love it. My espresso machine is one of my favourite possessions.

Mix it with decaf and cut back the caffeine gradually if it's causing you problems. Lavazza decaf is really nice, you can't really tell the difference.

Blerg · 10/07/2021 10:55

I would if I could but I can only have one cup a day before 12 or I can’t sleep.

Lyricallie · 10/07/2021 10:57

I'm not addicted but I do enjoy our coffee machine. My fiance on the other had absolutely is. Although makes it easy to buy gifts for as I just get him cool coffee stuff. He says I'm spoilt though as I only started drinking coffee when I moved in with him and he had nice beans etc. I didn't have to go through the years of being a student on instant coffee.

Nirnroot · 10/07/2021 11:02

I am but it's not something that bothers me. I actually really enjoy getting up early and sitting with my coffee reading a book before work/ starting the day. I did give it up for about 4 months when my panic attacks were horrendous, but honestly for me personally it didn't make much difference to my anxiety levels. When I went back to drinking it I found I'd actually really missed it and felt much happier drinking it!

FastFood · 10/07/2021 11:06

I am addicted yes.
Do I care? No. The amount of caffeine that I drink is harmless (3 cups a day).

Nuffaluff · 10/07/2021 11:08

Yes definitely, but I love it. Only three cups max though and only in the mornings.
No harm done.

traumatisednoodle · 10/07/2021 11:10

Yes, we have lovely beans and a bean to cup machine, one of life's small pleasures. Usually have 2-3 a day.

warmfluffytowels · 10/07/2021 11:12

Me! At least two cups of hot coffee a day plus homemade iced coffee on top in the summer. In winter, it's 3-4 mugs of hot coffee a day.

I drink it on the go at work too Blush

FrenchieFromGrease · 10/07/2021 11:19

I used to be. First thing in the morning I would make a coffee, then have a few more cups at work just to function.

When I stopped I had THE WORST headache in the world for 3 days straight. In my time I've given up smoking, drinking and drugs but never experienced anything even close to those caffeine withdrawals. The intensity of it frightened me; surely that can't be healthy.

Now I only have nice, freshly brewed coffee once or twice a week. I keep it is a treat to savour instead of something I need to live.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 10/07/2021 11:20

My youngest shows her love by saying 'mummy you deserve 9 coffees today'

I have been awake since 8.30 and I am on cup number 3. I drink about 6 a day on a normal day, a stressful day I can drink 10 easily and sleep like a baby.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 10/07/2021 11:22

I did go to the office before and I left my coffee at home (I take my own in)
By lunch time I had the most vile headache, I was snapping and just generally a bitch. My team now dread it if I forget my coffee.

Hangingtrousers · 10/07/2021 11:24

Yep and my coffee machine broke yesterday. Had to have tea this morning to sort out my caffeine headache.
On amazon now browsing new machines.

Etinox · 10/07/2021 11:33

I am and not worried about it. I’ve got through so many machines (hard water, at least 10 cups/ day) and am now using an aeropress @Hangingtrousers, a good back up.

TwoLeftElbows · 10/07/2021 11:37

Just enjoying it is fine if that works for you. I got awful migraines from it. I found cutting some decaf into my ground coffee was the easiest way to cut down. Decaf tea is more of a struggle.

Legoninjago1 · 10/07/2021 11:41

I have one, absolutely delicious and extremely strong coffee in the morning and that's it for the day. Always before 930. If I don't have it, I have a horrible headache by about 10. So in that sense, I am addicted to it. But once I've had it, I'm good for 24 hours!
