Epicanthal folds

Hey,
My little boy is 4 months old and I noticed his right eye has a epicanthal fold. Maybe his left too but more pronounced on right eye. He was recently diagnosed with nystagmus (involuntary eye movements) so let’s just say it’s been a constant worry for me 🥺 he’s my first baby and I just feel like no matter what I look up it’s always associated with something bad or some syndrome. I know epicanthal folds are associated with Down syndrome. Can my baby be Down syndrome and not know it?? Has anyone else baby has this when they were small and they went away? I’m sick with worry now 😩😭

Lots of people have epicanthic folds. It's just a genetic feature.

PrincessNutella · 09/07/2021 01:31

Yes, they are totally normal for millions of people!

I agree with @JaneJeffer. Downs is usually diagnosed very soon after birth, so at four months it's unlikely it hasn't been spotted. Please talk to your GP who will put your mind at rest I'm sure. In the nicest possible way, stop worrying.
