To think this is stupid pedantry?

I have had to make an application for UC to top up my earnings as I'm not getting as many hours at work as I'd hoped at the moment and I cannot live on my current wage.

It's a bit complicated to explain without being outing but basically I live on a 'site' that has multiple properties, all with the same postcode and a communal postbox that all the residents use. Think, a block of flats.

For some reason, my property doesn't come up on the drop down list when you put the post code in. It will come up with (for example), flat 1, flat 2, etc but not mine (Flat 3). I type it in manually but sometimes it autocorrects, I'm guessing because it doesn't recognise my address. So sometimes just the first line of 'Flat 3' will be missing. Normally this doesn't really matter as we all get post from the same place anyway.

I've found out today that I've been awarded £0 on my claim as apparently they can't confirm my address, the details don't match. The only difference is that on my documents it's has the 'flat 3' and on the UC website it doesn't. Everything else is identical. I've provided multiple documents, including my driver's license, all with the address including 'flat 3'.

Aibu to think that you'd have to be really pedantic to not be sure I was referring to 'flat 3'. I realise that they need to know exactly where I live but surely any reasonable person would surely assume that with 10+documents showing the same address, it's probably a typo and I probably do live at that address. Especially because it's THEIR website that has made the error. Couldn't they have contacted me to confirm rather than just going 🤷‍♀️ 'well, we have no idea where she lives! Better award her £0 to be safe!'. I have rung them up and changed it now, sent extra documents, and a letter from my landlady but I doubt it will matter as I won't get anything until next month now.

Just so upset and stressed because I am really reliant on that UC to see me through the next few weeks until my hours increase. Very frustrated 😞

That sounds very frustrating. Not much use to you now, but for the future, you can get the "missing address" problem fixed:

Probably worth doing to avoid this kind of hassle in future.

Speak to the Post Office. My address wasn’t always recognised on drop down address searches. They have a special department that deals with this!

Ooh, thank you for that, that is helpful to know for the future! I had no idea I could do anything about it 😁

I was genuinely so gutted to see the £0. I've been waiting weeks and weeks and I'm on the bones of my arse 😞
