To travel to london this weekend

MoonbeamSprinkles · 07/07/2021 22:32

I booked train tickets from the north of England to see my friend who lives in london several months ago.
I was really looking forward to having a train journey and even booked first class so I could really indulge.

I’m going down on the Saturday and coming back on the Monday. All good.
Until my husband pointed out that it was the euros final on the Sunday. No big deal I thought it’s not like England are going to hey to the final.

So Aibu to still go?

Yanbu - London’s huge and most people will be travelling down, enjoy your trip.

Yabu - it’ll be hell, the train will be packed with football fans, cut your losses and rebook.

You’ll be fine in first class.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 07/07/2021 22:34

Think be fine if travelling down on the Saturday.

CuriousOrangee · 07/07/2021 22:35

1st will probably be ok. Give yourself plenty of time though. It might be crowded at stations.

MoonbeamSprinkles · 07/07/2021 22:35

That was meant to say ‘travelling down on the Sunday’

It’s the Monday I’m worried about. I have work in the evening Confused

Why are you worried about the Monday?

Lemonmelonsun · 07/07/2021 23:11

Go and enjoy the atmosphere

Akire · 07/07/2021 23:11

The day before ain’t to bad as doubt there will be that many hotels with free homes for thousands and thousands of people with a few days notice. They are more likely to come down on the Sunday.

What time is the train on the monday? If you have seat booked in first class it should be fine. It’s cattle class if anything over sell and people will have to stand

onlyhereforthecake · 07/07/2021 23:13

As long as you are not booked too early on Monday you'll be fine.
It's the lack of available drivers around matches the problem, not the crowds. You have a seat, no issue.

Simbacatisback · 07/07/2021 23:14

Why are you worried? That you will have hangover?

skippy67 · 07/07/2021 23:46

Why are you worried about the Monday?

Shamoo · 08/07/2021 01:00

It will be fine OP. I went to today’s game and the trains were not even that full around London. Got a seat on the train and the tube both ways. No issue.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 08/07/2021 01:06

What’s worrying about it Confused

CorianderBee · 08/07/2021 01:36

If you want. I'm. Yorkshirewoman in London. Live here. It's really not that scary even with the Euros. Probs won't be able to book anywhere though

Thankgoodness1 · 08/07/2021 06:57

It’s pissing down this weekend!! Why not come next weekend when it sunny and warmer?

DappledThings · 08/07/2021 07:36

This wouldn't even register with me as a concern. If I was your friend who you cancelled on I'd be both offended and worried about your state of mind.

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 08/07/2021 09:26

I might be concerned if it was a Cup Final between say Chelsea and Newcastle and I were likely to be sharing a train back to the North East with a thousand questionably behaved Newcastle fans (just as an example, not saying they’re particularly badly behaved). That can get a bit rough. Also I probably wouldn’t be allowed a glass of wine on board if I happened to want one.

But because this is a national event the crowds will be evenly spread from all over and the trains should be OK.

Shoxfordian · 08/07/2021 09:51

It’ll be fine
Not everyone in London is obsessed with football

MoonbeamSprinkles · 08/07/2021 10:22

I’m not worried about it being dangerous or anything.
It’s just the trains and tubes being rammed and/or delayed.

I am staying with my friend and come down to london regularly. I was just wondering if there’ll be lots of people travelling down and back up. Kind of like trying to get somewhere round Glastonbury during the festival time.

Going back up on at lunchtime on the Monday so I’m reassured I’ll be fine.

I can imagine the state of central London that night if we do win, overrun with yobs. We are in London at the end of the month and I’m so pleased it will be all over by then.

Bksjshsbbev2737 · 08/07/2021 10:32

You’ll be fine; most people will travel the Sunday and in first class it won’t be busy
