Anyone looked after anyone through a medical detox?

A close friend has asked me to stay with her while she medically detoxes. I have said yes but I am worried and scared, I have no medical training. Apparently she might have a seizure or heart attack. Of course I will have 999 on speed dial but this is so out of my comfort zone. It would be great to hear from anyone who's done it.

Sounds quite stressful for you. If it was thought to be a risky detox I would have thought they would have closer medical supervision (even an admission). But at the very least she should have a clear plan for medication down-titration and a crisis plan type thing so she knows who to contact if things don’t go quite to plan. And there is always A&E. I think your role should be more around moral support, not to manage the detox.

Thank you. She's a single parent with a young child. She said she has to have someone to stay with her in case she has a heart attack or seizure.

I wish she was being admitted and not sure why she isn't. I'd have been more than happy to have her dc.
