McDonalds uniform

Help .. any employees of the Golden Arches!

DS has just been offered his first job at McDonalds - he's going to collect his uniform on Wednesday.

He's a rugby playing whopper, 6'5", size 13 shoes and an XXL shirt/40'' waist.

Will they have uniform to fit him? The interview was TEAMs based so they've not see the sheer size of him!! The person who offered him the post asked what size he needed and he said the 'largest you've got' and she said 'oh I think we do up to a 38" 😕 so he just said 'oh okay'

He's only 16 and has sorted this all by himself - I'd hate him to have a really awkward intro into the world of work!

Can he message them beforehand? If the largest size they do won’t fit him then it’s best to get it sorted now, rather than show up to collect a uniform he knows won’t fit.

emilyfrost · 07/07/2021 17:32

Yeah, he needs to ring them and explain.

He can’t just show up on the off chance they have one to fit because if it doesn’t and he can’t work, they’ll have organised extra staff to be in to train him and that’s not fair on them.

Teenagersuniform · 07/07/2021 17:38

I'll get him to call tomorrow, poor thing he'll be mortified!

I’d be very surprised if they couldn’t get uniform to fit him. While he is a big lad, he’s not unheard-of enormous. It’ll be fine.

PiddleOfPuppies · 07/07/2021 17:45

DD2 works at McDonald's and we had to send measurements with her on her induction day. Her colleagues are all shapes and sizes, so whatever size be needs, they'll sort it out.
She loves the job and has absolutely blossomed - hope your son enjoys it.

This is on their website
That's reassuring .. thankyou

Please don't worry!

I've seen McDonald's workers who have waists much larger than 40" and they all seem to have well-fitting uniform :) I'm sure it'll be fine.

needasleep · 07/07/2021 17:52

My DD has just started at McDonalds they told her the uniform is small made and told her to go up a size and also to order long length trousers, she is all legs. She picked her uniform up about a week before her first shift but they said not to worry if it didn't fit as they can order bigger/smaller sizes if needed

emilyfrost · 07/07/2021 17:53

McDonalds are a really inclusive and diverse company; it won’t be an issue at all Smile

motogogo · 07/07/2021 17:55

They special ordered shoes for dd (size 2) so they definitely go the extra mile. They were actually very good and understanding employers, far exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations

Queenoftheashes · 07/07/2021 18:00

I’m sure McDonald’s of all places is aware some people are bigger

RosieLancs · 07/07/2021 18:03

The first couple of shifts they are just doing e-learning I the back anyway so plenty of time to sort uniform if it is the wrong size.
There are definitely people a lot bigger than your son working at McDonalds.

KaleJuicer · 07/07/2021 18:04

That’s a really lovely message for employees on their website. Much better that when I had a summer job in a hospital kitchen as a teenager - you either fitted the size 10 spare uniform or didn’t work!

They should have done their e-learning before their first shift Wink
RaindropsOnRosie · 07/07/2021 18:21

They will definitely have something for him, ring beforehand to ask how to go about ordering the uniform and see if they'll take his sizes then. They have access to all sizes, tall size too so I'm sure he'll be fine. They are generally good employers so if there is an issue it can be dealt with.

risefromyourgrave · 07/07/2021 18:27

My son works there and says it’ll be fine, he works with someone bigger than your son and he had no problem getting a uniform.

PurpleMustang · 07/07/2021 18:31

Sounds like he will be fine. I would physically measure him beforehand to take along in case they ask and work off measurements rather than sizings. He will look prepared at least

GeorgiaGirl52 · 07/07/2021 18:33

My son started work at Chic-Fil-A and he is 6-1, size 14 shoes and a 3XXX shirt. They had his size and larger. You should be so proud of him for organizing his first job!!!
FYI - If you sew, grab his pants and do an extra row of stitching up the crotch. With all the bending and reaching, that is the area that rips first.Grin

Teenagersuniform · 07/07/2021 18:54

Thanks lovely mumsnetters ... lovely useful advice. I'll let you know how he gets on

My son who is 18 works at golden arches. He is a big lad and his polo shirt is a 3xl. I am sure they will have uniform for him

ThinWomansBrain · 07/07/2021 19:35

get him to email - I'm sure they'll be delighted with a rugby sized person to shunt boxes around Grin

Backhills · 07/07/2021 19:40

They'll order it for him if they don't have it. Well done to DS. My DS1 has been there 2 years now and they have been really lovely employers.

Miffy2020 · 07/07/2021 20:44

My partner worked there when he was 16 - he's 6"10. No problems with uniform

Alfiemoon1 · 07/07/2021 21:06

We had the opposite problem dd is tiny but they sorted it for her but we did have to shorten the pants a bit
