Peri menopause?!?!?

Help please, I'm going nuts!!! I'm nearly 41, last child born 2.5 years ago, before that my periods were like 28-30 days, then they went up to 34-35, last one 38 days!?!? I'm now expecting it again and it's day 41... I also have rheumatoid arthritis and if I'm peri menopausal I just need to know, I'm bran fogged all the time, tired, pissed off, mood swings... GP gave mi the mini pill, progesterone only, but not taking it yet as again side effects are fatigue... I have a family, I have to work somehow, I need my brain to function!!!! Oh, and for the last 3 weeks I've got constant positive opk test... Any suggestions, please help...

Sounds like it, and I’m having some of the same issues as you although I’m putting being tired down to having a toddler and working full time. Im 41 in august and my cycles are getting longer and my brain is mush.

Noshowlomo · 07/07/2021 16:08

Oh and sorry I know my post isn’t much help but yes it sounds like peri. My sister is 56 and hasn’t long gone through menopause so I’m hoping I’m around the same age as her

Lanawondering · 07/07/2021 16:08

OMG... I honestly can't handle that right now... anyone taking anything like supplements or progesterone to ease up the symptoms?? Otherwise one of these days I'll just have to kill someone... probably my husband who doesn't deserve such a bitch for a wifeSad

I'm 42

Over the past few month I've had so many symptoms that pointed one of two ways - fibromyalgia or perimenopause.

I had a tonne of blood tests (not hormones though) to see if anything was indicative - there was nothing

I had a phone consultation with my GP and we had a long chat and I mentioned the perimenopause and she suggested I try HRT to see if it helps.

It has

I don't have half the symptoms I had a week ago - I'm so much happier now. I have a oestrogen patch and progesterone tablets - I was offered a mirena but I declined that.

is opk a fertility test -- are you TTC?

Lanawondering · 07/07/2021 16:21

No, not TTC, tracking just to see if the different phase of my cycles affect my rheumatoid arthritis, done with TTC, thank God!

Have you had the vaccine in the last couple of months? I think disrupted periods was a side effect as is fatigue and brain fog for some people. Just a thought!

Lanawondering · 07/07/2021 17:06

Oh, really? Just the first one, second on 16th this month, many thanks, I'll have a look at the side effects of the vaccine!

Sounds like peri to me.
My periods range from 21 to 40 days apart.
I'm 49

notfromstepford · 07/07/2021 17:46

I'm 46 and reckon I've been in peri for about 18 months. A year ago I went to GP in desperation - I had so much rage it was awful and couldn't cope with a 10 - 14 day period every 3 weeks. Went on progesterone only daily pill (no break) and it's really helped. I do have night sweats and have just started with hot flushes, joint pain and brain fog so will be going back soon for HRT I think.

Orangesandlemons82 · 07/07/2021 20:13

I am 39 and have the same symptoms. I already have a Mirena coil so the GP prescribed a low dose of oestrogen to trial to see if that helps the hot flushes and night sweats. I only started it yesterday but am hoping it resolves some of the problems.

Lanawondering · 08/07/2021 08:17

Well, I don't have hot flashes, but had lots of night sweats, now they are gone... checked the side effects of the vaccine- it could be that, but highly doubt it... got the feeling that AF will show any moment now and it's drying me crazy...:( don't know, we'll talk with my GP and see what can be don. Last hormonal test showed increased LSH 28.8 and to be menopausal it's 30 or more so yeah... might be that... just why on earth right now?!??! A few months later would be nice, but noooo... when one thing goes sideways everything else follows!

Just spoke with my GP, according to her I'm not peri menopausal, but she'll pass the details to a specialist for a second opinion. Meanwhile the fucker is still not hear and driving me mad...

An update... it turns out it might be Vyvance- as I have ADHD on top of everything.. so stopped it yesterday until me period arrives and I hope I'll make it through the fogginess of PMS, RA and ADHD until discuss it with my doctor to change the medication.. of course it's not listed as a side effect, had to found out through forums, where thousands ladies are stuck with the same issue- no AF, but horrible PMS, and with me this makes my RA flares up to the sky... peachy:)

Come and join us on the Totes Merry Peri Facebook group. Lots of ladies giving advice. I’ve learned so much in the short time I have been in the group. There is advice on natural remedies, foods to eat/avoid and on hrt. It has made me see that I’m not some mental, bloated, emotional old woman with aching joints and a fine line in sarcasm (although I’ve always been rather sarcastic 😉).

Lanawondering · 07/09/2021 11:20

An update... I'm of vyvance for a week, on the 59 day of my cycle, no period, of course, started taking disigestrel for two weeks and than stop it and meanwhile will see endocrinologist... will keep updating, hate posts that end with no solution or result so I'll try not to do the same!

An update again, been through a lot, lost a lot of weight, lots of stress, so I stopped taking the bloody desogestrel (even though I did the challenge test nothing showed up) so when I dug deeper it makes you more prone to being depressed, nausea and a few other lovely staff... so no, thank you, at least for now, too many pills and if all of them are making me puke that's the first I'll throw away... so let's see... I'll update later on if anything happens for someone out there who may find herself in a similar situation although I truly hope no one will..

get a blood test. I'm 40 and was having those symptoms (except my period has shortened to 22 days) and bloods came back folic acid anemic and vitD deficient.
