Don’t like it...

Friend did some wallpapering for me yesterday for free and I’m so grateful for the help , they are such a lovely person. The thing is it looks really bad and hasn’t been put up very well at all. Probably sounds dramatic but feel so awful posting this, I really don’t want it up and feel like ripping it down. I can’t can I? They’d be so offended.

I'm a chicken and I'd pay to have it done properly and never tell them.

ThinWomansBrain · 06/07/2021 20:26

does the friend visit your house regularly?

even if they do, say you spilt tomato soup on it or something! = or that you just didn't like it.
(presumably not Boris Johnson £840 a roll wallpaper)

tallduckandhandsome · 06/07/2021 20:30

Get it redone properly. We have dodgy wallpaper but can’t change it as son’t to damage the carpets.

Hdfgdcvbbhh · 06/07/2021 20:44

Was thinking of just painting the wall instead. Would the paste of dried yet do you think? I’m not sure if I’m brave enough to take it down they put so much effort into doing it and spent 5 hours . I do see my friend quite often :(

Take it down and say you picked badly if they asked? Why would you live with bad decorating to appease someone who doesn't even live there?

thefirstmrsrochester · 06/07/2021 20:48

Is it the wallpaper you don’t like, or the way it’s been hung? If it’s the latter, I’d pay for a professional to come in and repaper rather than risk offending a friend.

Champagneforeveryone · 06/07/2021 20:49

At least wait for it to dry first, sometimes it just takes a couple days to dry properly to look better.

If not, simply lie and say you hated the pattern once it was up

daytriptovulcan · 06/07/2021 20:51

You should remove it. You friend is a cheeky sod to offer, if they cant do it to a professional standard... Its a bit of a piss take to waste your wallpaper.

MimiDaisy11 · 06/07/2021 20:52

Just have it redone professionally and don’t tell friend. If they’re back in your house they’re hardly going to point out that the wallpaper looks better. They’ll likely think they did a great job or if they see an improvement they’ll just stay quiet. It’d be odd to point out there aren’t bubbles or misalignments and to get annoyed at you for not keeping them.

ThinWomansBrain · 06/07/2021 21:05

If it's been put up badly, painting over it won't help - the paint will still be over a manky base.

Hdfgdcvbbhh · 06/07/2021 21:07

@ThinWomansBrain

Sorry I meant pull the paper off and just paint the wall. But not sure if i will have to scrape all the paper off or if it will still be wet and come off easy.

How much did you know about your friends wallpapering skills before hand? Is she good and has done a sloppy job or did she just offer to give it a go?

Hdfgdcvbbhh · 06/07/2021 21:09

It’s the pattern and the way it’s hung I don’t like😩 worried once it’s fully dry it will be more of a pain to remove so didn’t really want to wait any longer. Saying I don’t like the paper is a good idea because that is part of it.

OP posts:
RandomMess · 06/07/2021 21:23

What's wrong with the way it's hung? Some bubbles etc go when it's dry.

Is it the pattern or the shock of it after having plain walls?

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/07/2021 21:24

Of course remove it.

Tell her it was perfect when she left but it started to slide afterwards. You had to tear it all down, you had no option.

ThinWomansBrain · 06/07/2021 21:31

oooh - sliding off by itself - that's a good one!

SnoozyBoozy · 06/07/2021 21:32

If you see your friend quite often, it would be really hard to just remove the paper and paint the wall immediately after they've spent so much time doing you a favour.

Honestly, I would either get it redone with the same paper so they'd not know, or live with it for a while and then say you didn't like the pattern.

drumandthebass · 06/07/2021 21:33

Just say that you didn't like the wallpaper and decided to paint the wall instead
