Worried my toddler had caught coldsore

Hello
I am worried sick and after some advice
I suffer from cold sores, have done since a child. I have probably had 2 cold sores since my toddler was born. One being on the last week or so. The first outbreak I was very diligent and used the comped patches. This time I had one under my nose and I don’t know why but completely forgot to use the patches. My toddler came up to me and touched her nose on mine and I’m not even sure she it touched my coldsore but less than 24 hours later my toddler now has a temperature and sore throat. Is this too soon or could this be a primary infection?
I am still breastfeeding and I was told that antibodies are passed on but I am worried sick. This is the one thing that I wanted to protect my child from as I have suffered so much over the years. I’m now sick with worry and hoping it’s just a coincidence. There isn’t any blisters or anything currently.

I think you might be over worrying. Most people have one of the herpes viruses that cause cold sores. Statistics seem to be between 50% and 70% of the population. But most people don't actually get cold sores from there virus, or only get them very infrequently, or just in the early days of the infection. The appearance of cold sores seems to have more to do with your immune system.

In any event the virus is very common, and also quite infectious. If you have it there's a very high chance that other people in your family are going to get it too, but it's unlikely to cause them significant cold-sore problems.
