I despair at some of the responses on these forums!
I cannot believe how closed minded some people are! People often post for support and the way people go for them is unbelievable! Someone posts something their wife/husband/bf/partner said or did and its "cheating" "found someone else" "end it" .
If people do not agree with something in a response it can become so nasty. Absolutely no discussion or reasoning. People become so sensitive and upset.
I really wish we could be a little bit more helpful and understanding of our fellow humans.

Most of the fighty stuff is on AIBU, not 'forums' plural.

FaceyRomford · 06/07/2021 00:13

You are never going to get "helpful and understanding" on an anonymous internet forum.

MamaJustKilledAMan · 06/07/2021 00:18

I think it depends on the delivery. You can give harsh advice from a place of kindness.
Some people genuinely just say things to be a prick though and sit back and wait for the fallout. Those people are the ones the OP should totally ignore and not bite to. AIBU is known for being catty and I usually skim past the replies where they are clearly saying it for a bit of boot.

Wish I'd never posted - my first post and I'm never doing it again! Yes, replies are probably true but in no way supportive or caring - on the lines of it's not about you, get over it, just stop thinking that way - if it was as easy as that I wouldn't be on a forum asking complete strangers for advice!

Keyansier · 27/10/2022 12:56

I think some people genuinely enjoy giving harsh responses, especially in the first couple of replies and then everybody else follows them. I've made a few threads before and the responses were unbelievable, ridiculous and downright nasty.

I like a good ol' narky thread me.

What I can't understand is when I see threads about hubby watching porn and the op is always so horrified by it and ppl telling her to walk away etc

I don't see the issue with porn, he's not cheating if it's just harmless watching on tv so I don't get all the drama about it. I'm sure my hubby prob watches porn sometimes and I don't mind at all

You may "see the issue with it" and "not mind at all", lots do, including the OPs of the threads you're talking about.

Icedlatteplease · 27/10/2022 13:10

I've always liked mumsnet because it isnt all "you'll get over it hun" and "we're here for you", if they think someone's being a prick they will tell you.

There used to be more "supportive" forum options. They didn't survive.

Oh where to start....

You might not. But these days There's enough significant evidence why objectively porn often is a problem (death grip, encouragement/normalisation of extreme taste, frequent pork use contributing to lack of interest in real life interactions.

But a variety of opinions should always be a good thing
