Not technically aibu but I need help as soon as possible !

Have name changed as might be identified

I already own a small business with a business partner but currently setting up another which will include personalised gifts .

They will be made with HTV and will include baby vests , hats , t - shirts , caps, tote bags , onesies, pjs ( child and adult )

I can not think of a name , I’ve been thinking for days and am running out of time .

This new business will also be supplying original business with items for extra info !

I’m not in to any names with “personalised “ or “vinyl” in it

Please please creative and witty mumsnetters, help me find a name !

HTV?

DeathByWalkies · 05/07/2021 17:48

MN also helped me name my business Grin

Try not to pick a name which will limit you too much - you never know what direction the business will go in (you could drop the personalised option, or start doing more embroidery than vinyl, for instance).

Keep anything too local out of the name unless you will only be trading locally for logistical reasons (you can post, so not an issue for you) - it'll appeal to local people but potentially put off those further afield.

Always make sure the social media handles are free, along with the URLs, and typing in something similar won't take them to a different company's page. If you have to use an underscore or hyphen to differentiate your handle / URL then it's too similar.

Avoid a name that already has a clear connection - this will make it harder to sort out your SEO - calling your business "Miss Muffet's Clothing" will mean you're trying to compete with a nursery rhyme

Is there anything you can use to create a story around (e.g. your child's name?) - you could call it something like "Ivy & Grace" or whatever your child's name is - or "Cotton & Grace" to represent the clothing side of things.

@TestingTestingWonTooFree sorry it’s heat transfer vinyl

@DeathByWalkies thanks for that , we run a business already so know the background , it’s the name that’s really thrown me for some reason !

I was thinking about using my children’s names so that’s interesting

And were mumsnetters successful in coming up with a name ?! I’ve seen a few threads recently about business names and I always think of loads but I seem to have lost the ability to think for myself Confused

Thanks for all the info

Could you make a word from dc's initials?

MiddleClassProblem · 05/07/2021 18:03

The Heat Is On 😂

Kids names can work well. Initials can be a bit forgetful or impersonal though.

Clothes & Personal!

Businessnamehelp · 05/07/2021 18:09

I’ve tried the kids initials but they don’t work well !

I really like clothes and personal !!

We tried for ages to combine our two names/nicknames/initials when coming up with our business name but nothing fit.
Then had a look at our baby name shortlist and came up with the perfect name. It is a bit odd when people ask what the name means though 😂 and obviously we now can’t use it for any future children

DeathByWalkies · 05/07/2021 18:25

FWIW my business name contains a word that's sometimes but not always used as a first name. It's not my actual name. I've now learned to respond to that name as a lot of people assume I named the business after myself!

Touching Cloth? Because the HTV touches cloth when you apply it?

MiddleClassProblem · 06/07/2021 15:52

Well this has taken a turn…

Heartofglass12345 · 06/07/2021 15:53

I agree with touching cloth, you wouldn't forget it in a hurry Grin

Touching Cloth

Sugarplumfairy65 · 06/07/2021 16:04

Whatever name you choose, check with the intellectual property office that the name hasn't been trademarked. Twice in recent months I've had to send out cease and desist letters out to new companies who think all they have to do is check with companies house to see if a company name is available
