I found something I want to purchase on fb marketplace. It's £200.

Messaged and said I would like to purchase it. Got a response asking if I can collect this afternoon (this was yesterday). I replied with a few questions to figure out if I can (address and dimensions etc to see if it will fit in my car), it looks as if they haven't read the message yet still. I have found the sellers website (trying to find their rough location) and the same item is on their website at £50 less.

Obviuously I don't want to pay £200 if they were willing to sell it for £150. So how do I word a message asking for it at that price?

I want the item so don't want to piss them off, so has to be nice.
Thanks

Did you mention the price when you messaged them? Is there a number on the website? If there is ring and purchase it through the website!

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 05/07/2021 10:43

Tricky. Only thing I can think of is messaging them to say sorry but you’re no longer interested, then get a friend/DP/relative to contact them through the website and buy it for you,

GaspGulpScream · 05/07/2021 10:43

I would just purchase it through their website too

Similar happened to me and when I realised and asked seller to sell at the lower price listed on marketplace they said no as I had agreed to the buy it now eBay price. I cancelled the sale on eBay and told the seller I was no longer interested. Amused me that it didn't sell for many weeks but I found similar item even cheaper within days.

There's no way to purchase directly through the website, you still have to call or message to purchase, so surely they would recognise my name if I tried to do either anyway. DH has the same surname so I think it has to be an upfront message.

I would ask if they would honour the lower price. Be up front about it. But be willing to walk away from the sale if they say no.

QuestionableMouse · 05/07/2021 11:34

Just send them a message asking them to clarify the price as it's cheaper on their website. Include a screen shot so they can't deny it.

Best approach I reckon. Leaves them to have to explain.

Thank you for the replies. I've sent a message through fb asking the question so will wait to see if they read/reply.

A bit annoying they haven't even read either of the messages since they asked if I could pick it up this afternoon but never gave any further details. But that's life.
