Which house?

On a small new build development. Both the exact same house and price. One has neighbours on both sides so garden overlooked on both sides. The other is at the edge of the development so only overlooked on one side, (the other backs onto woodland) but this one has car parking spaces directly in front for the owner, then spaces in front of those for other owners so you could potentially look out onto your cars plus two other peoples.

The other houses car parking spaces are to the side. The front looks out onto the paved road.

Which do you think would be more desirable?

We've got neighbours on both sides and when one side finishes doing some work the other side starts. It's really draining as there isn't often a time when no one is doing anything.
It would be nice to sit in garden and enjoy it without building sawing etc etc going on. I know people have to do work on their houses but these days it seems to be constant.
Also some people who have bought houses with a single drive way still have loads of vehicles and work vans.
We had one family who had six cars parked everywhere no consideration for anyone else living there.
If people have loads of vehicles they should buy a house with somewhere to park them. All these sort of things need to be considered.
Work vans should be kept at work as makes residential areas look an eyesore.

Ps also we know someone who got burgled with woodland at back from gypsies.
You would need to have high fence/wall/camera etc

BarbaraofSeville · 05/07/2021 09:59

To me house A sounds far more desirable.

Personally I'd go for the one with neighbours both sides but better shaped garden and no cars outside. Only because our last house was opposite a turning circle and despite being a quiet road, our neighbour was in and out constantly with a lot of visitors, you could hear the cars and it didn't look nice.

Skysblue · 05/07/2021 10:36

I’d go for the house with only one neighbour.

My neighbours kids are all musical 🙉 go for the minimum noise!!

ineedaholidayandwine · 05/07/2021 10:43

House A for me

1starwars2 · 05/07/2021 11:07

Which way will the side garden face? If West I would go with that...

bettytaghetti · 05/07/2021 11:40

I prefer the sound of House A; having space at both the side & back of the house would give you more options should you wish to extend in the future. Also would give you more areas to sit depending on how ithe house is positioned in respect to the sun's movement.

MattHancocksSexTape · 05/07/2021 11:59

Quiet woodland… could that be a spot where the local teens hangout?!

Avoidance · 05/07/2021 12:07

I was in a similar situation 5 years ago and so glad I went for house B in your scenario, as PP have said the woodlands block a lot of sun from house A’S garden and also my dad put me off because “weirdos walking in the woods at night” Confused even though there was a big fence it still put me off!

Deffo house B IMO. Best of luck with whichever you chose though :)

Can you link to them both online so we can see them and compare

Blossomtoes · 05/07/2021 13:58

It would be House A for me. I’m a sucker for woodland.

longtompot · 05/07/2021 14:04

House A for me. Woodland on one side and one neighbour on the other. I think being able to see your car isn't an issue, but if it is for you, could you plant up the front so it's not so obvious?

DynamoKev · 05/07/2021 14:36

@Meme69

The end one. Every time. I'd not want to back onto woodland for a start (think I may listen to too many crime podcasts). But also, who cares about looking at cars? They are innocuous and don't invade your privacy the way neighbours do. Also, less chance of having 2 noisy neighbours
I think you are contradicting yourself there - the end one is the one next to woodland.

If one house has so called Tandem parking and the other doesn't then I'd go for the latter. Tandem parking is a real pita after a few weeks. If they're the same then I'd go for the woodland one but be aware that it could make your garden the easy target for robbery or anti social behaviour. (Because of easier access and the woods being a good hiding place)

tallduckandhandsome · 05/07/2021 19:13

Woodland for me too, hate being overlooked.
