COVID TESTING -

So me and OH just took covid test, we've been feeling a bit run down as well as our 2 year old, and know we have a few cases in the area, we've done the self testing ones- I done mine all fine, and they're both negative thankfully.

But IH done his and he dipped into the extraction solution then out the swab back up his nose as he forgot to do the other nostril first time around, I've told him to call 111 as I can't find any information online about what exactly is in this solution!

He says I'm being dramatic, he blew his nose after and he feels fine. So my question is AIBU? He's awfully messy with this kind of stuff and doesn't really think about what he's doing. Does anybody know what is in this solution??

Im sure he will be fine, bit daft of him to go back up the other nostril after putting swab in the solution.

warmfluffytowels · 04/07/2021 17:54

I think you're overreacting!

Talkabtit101 · 04/07/2021 17:56

This was my Worry, I've no idea what is even in the solution, I've tried to Google it but no idea. He's said if it was that hazardous they wouldn't let you use this stuff and store it in your house where children can get hold of. But I don't know

Fairly certain it’s just a buffer solution, nothing harmful

FelicityBeedle · 04/07/2021 17:58

But if you’re symptomatic obviously you should get a PCR. Couldn’t quite tell from your post

Littlecaf · 04/07/2021 17:59

I don’t think the NHS is going to send out millions of little vials of lethal liquid through the post to the general public so I’m sure it’s fine.

underneaththeash · 04/07/2021 18:02

It's basically sterile water - nothing to worry about it (unless you're into conspiracy theories!).

Hi yes, we done the at home 30 min ones. He said his nose feels fine, it's just not knowing what is in those vials

Talkabtit101 · 04/07/2021 18:08

We've had nausea and tiredness, so not coughing or fever, I just took the tests just to see.

As others have said; If you have symptoms then you need to book a PCR test. The lateral flow tests that you do at home are just for bi-weekly testing (everyone should be doing them anyway when they don't have symptoms).

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/07/2021 18:12

What was his result in the end?

MouldyPotato · 04/07/2021 18:12

Do you have symptoms? Get a PCR.

If you don't have symptoms the OH should do another test.

firstevernamechange · 04/07/2021 18:14

Having done eleventh billion lateral flow tests, you only need to do one nostril.

The buffer fluid won't kill you, though. 😉

Talkabtit101 · 04/07/2021 18:16

Hi, test was negative, both were

We've only just been given these tests, as we'd recently moved and our doctors were all over the place, so we got them Friday, decided to do them today with the tiredness. But both negative.

He said if they were lethal they wouldn't send them out and allow the tests to be done on children with the chance of them getting home of the vials. I just couldn't find any information on what the actual liquid in the vial is!

A quick google told me very clearly that the buffer solution isn’t hazardous, I think you are over reacting.

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/07/2021 19:16

People have already told you that there is nothing in the solution.

Chanjer · 04/07/2021 19:19

YABU

Mipapapequenaa · 04/07/2021 19:21

You should absolutely get a PCR test whether or not your lateral flow tests were negative, OP. I work as a medical statistician and the lateral flow rapid tests only identify approx 70% of positive cases, so potentially 30% of positive cases go undetected by a lateral flow. You can order tests for free online and you should not leave the house until you've have your PCR test results back.

But yes, please don't panic. None of the substances are hazardous

xksismybestletter · 04/07/2021 19:22

How dramatic are you?

Mipapapequenaa · 04/07/2021 19:25

The second paragraph in that pic I posted above is what you're looking at. If anything was any risk at all it would say "If this product gets in your eyes rinse immediately and seek medical advice" etc etc because every single hazardous substance has that on it!
