to think if you have unexplained bruising after the AZ vaccine

…that it’s something that’s acceptable to check with your GP?

I’m early 30s and had my 2nd AZ dose 9 days ago. The nurse who administered the vaccine warned me to seek medical attention if I had certain side effects (shortness of breath, chest pain, very painful headache, unexplained bruising).

Yesterday I noticed a large dark bruise on the back of my knee (about 3-4cm square). I rang my GP this morning and had a call back from a rather grumpy doctor who told me bruising had nothing to do with AZ blood clots and I shouldn’t have been told to ring for bruising, only for headaches/chest pain. He was dismissive to the point of being rude.

To be clear, I haven’t injured myself. It’s in too weird a location to be an injury I wouldn’t have noticed.

I’m just wondering if others were given advice that bruising was a potentially problematic side effect. Was I BU to check this with a GP because he pretty much made me feel like I’d lied about the advice I was given!

I don't think it sounds related, especially after 9 days. There are many ways a person can bruise herself unexpectedly. I wouldn't worry.

From the gov.uk website

anyone who has symptoms four days or more after vaccination is advised to seek prompt medical advice, such as:

a new onset of severe or persistent headache, blurred vision, confusion or seizures

develop shortness of breath, chest pain, leg swelling or persistent abdominal pain

unusual skin bruising or pinpoint round spots beyond the injection site

I think he should have at least asked questions rather than just dismissing you so breezily

Bruising is absolutely something you should seek medical advice for. I developed very unusual bruising after my first jab and my gp advised that it was almost definitely vaccine related ITP and asked me to arrange blood tests

I would definitely get at least a blood test for that, phone 111 if you can't get anywhere with GP. As its the second vaccine its probably fine but it is one of the main things to look out for.

Bruising is on the Zoe app as an odd symptom of Astra

I had my second one last week and feel sooooo tired! And I have a really heavy chest like an elephant is sitting on it!
