Still waiting to start a job I was offered 4 weeks ago!!

I'm really frustrated because I'm still waiting to start the new job I was offered on 4th June!!? I didn't take another job I was offered because I wanted to work in a care home instead of going from house to house. In those 4 weeks, all they've done is get my DBS and enrol me in a few courses. I finished it on Tuesday, and they said in the email they monitor completions daily and will notify the home to arrange a start date?

I was enrolled on the courses 21 June and they said I'd start 30 June. Ok. Emailed them again and asked if I'm coming in on Wednesday and was told no, I have to wait for the home to contact me?

Sick and tired of just sitting at home, surely if they monitor completions daily they would have seen I finished all my courses on Tuesday? It's Thursday now? Or maybe the home is just being lazy. I don't know, I'm jus sick of it all. Who knows when they'll contact me, I honestly don't think I'll hear from them this week.

I would never have taken this job if I knew I would be waiting 4+ bloody weeks before I could start. And I've told a few people I'm starting on Wednesday, and they're all surprised I'm still at home!

Yup, have had the same thing and it’s v annoying. All that time not earning and waiting around.
I was offered a job at a home in a well known chain and re references: at first all references had to be from employers with a “professional” email address (ie not Gmail etc) so I couldn’t add any care references as they were all private clients. Then over 2 weeks’ later, just before I was was due to start (and I’d provided 3 other references), they suddenly decided they DID want the Gmail type care references, so that took another 10 days or so to be sent out, returned and completed. And with the dbs taking its time, it was over 5 weeks before I started. And as for the endless unpaid online training, the daily queues for the PCR tests (which you got an extra 30 mins pay however long you waited).
And then I only stayed a week because of less than ideal working conditions and being expected to tend to covid + residents without proper PPE when I still hadn’t been vaccinated and other vaccinated staff were available (earlier in the pandemic when I was waiting for my jab). And as for the rate of pay when some residents paid £3k per week!

Exactly. I just feel so frustrated by just sitting at home while I could be working and earning, they did pay me for 33 hours for the training. There were 16 online courses 🙄. It didn't take 33 hours, but they said they'd pay me for that regardless of how long it took.

For an industry that's desperate for staff, you'd think they would get you in as quickly as possible. Do you think I should email them again on Monday?

Definitely email to remind them how keen you are and that you’re ready to work. You’d think they’d be on to it when you consider staff shortages in our sector!

Is it NHS? If so prepare to wait another month or two

No it's not NHS. It's one of the biggest care home providers in the U.K.
