I want to go back to my old career

I worked in the housing sector for many years. I went to a new employer and ended up losing my job after 18 months as I got stressed with the excessive workload and bullying which I did report. Nothing was done about these issues and as I was run down I caught a virus and burnt out as I kept being pressured and tried to go back to work twice when I was still physically unwell. The company is very corrupt and I have since found out there have been lots of law dispute with employees.

It took me a few years to recover physically and mentally. I decided to retrain as a teaching assistant as at the time I felt pressured to choose something else quickly. I have now qualified and didn't realise the pay was so poor and that TA's don't get holiday pay.

I have been temping for the past few months back in the housing sector and enjoy it this time round as this is a better employer. Now I have finished my teaching assistant qualification I have been offered a teaching assistant interview and feel my heart is not in it. I just want to cry as I really enjoy the housing sector and don't want to leave to behind. I just don't know what to do.

Unfortunately housing is Hotel California. You can never leave. I'm a lifer and love it.

However you had a reason to leave. Housing is rough and stressful and there are problematic organisations. Can you try the current role and see how it is?

Follow your gut, do what makes you happy now - if you can afford to - there is always time to re think again.

Do what makes you happy

Housing pays 3-6k more too.

Only you will really know. All I know is I need to be happy at work.

I've taken a massive - in some peoples eyes - downstepp in career. I'm a happier and nicer person for it.
