Hello all

So I bleached my hair three times and I am stuck at a dreadful light orange in patches - would I be totally unreasonable to stick an medium ash blonde on it. YouTube says not!

Anyone had any experience of this? Help!

3 times you bleached it?

what was your starting colour ? does your hair feel okay ? dry or brittle ?

Where are you Brad Mondo!

Bellyups · 28/06/2021 19:25

How long in between bleaches? Did you do at home? What’s the condition like?

MrsSkeffington · 28/06/2021 19:27

Feels fine I deep conditioned tonight. My hair is really strong though - that pic wasn't the best light I'll post another.

I know right I need brad! I've done it three times in a week last time last night but all cheap shop brought dyes.

Natural colour no idea anymore but it has a champagne toner on it. God if I was reading this I'd roll my eyes at me. Honestly though it's not dry or anything

What's your end goal? A ash blonde won't make it any lighter it will just take away some of the orange tone.

How bad is the damage to the hair? Are you able to give it a few days and attempt to lighten the orangey bits again a couple of shades?

mayblossominapril · 28/06/2021 19:29

I really wouldn’t dye it again. I’ve found the orange patches tend to occur where dye is over dye.

shouldistop · 28/06/2021 19:31

Honestly? I think I'd go to the hairdressers

MrsSkeffington · 28/06/2021 19:40

No way to hairdressers! I've come this far I'll see it through

It's a lot lighter than it's showing / I don't want lighter hair than it is just a nice normal colour

dementedpixie · 28/06/2021 19:45

What bleach were you using? Doesn't seem to have lightened much at all. Did you leave it on long enough?

MrsSkeffington · 28/06/2021 19:51

Just stuff from boots

It was dark red

You need a purple/blue toner. Not more bleach

WhatTheFlap · 28/06/2021 20:25

Agree with @nicelyneurotic you need to put a blue/purple toner on to try and get the brassy colours out Smile

Anycrispsleft · 28/06/2021 20:33

I don't know about pre dyed hair but when I bleached my black hair back in the day it went through an orange stage and I just kept the bleach on for longer, and I wrapped my hair in clingfilm and put the warm setting on the hairdryer to warm it up. Reading that back it sounds completely mental actually. But it did go completely white!

LeSquigh · 28/06/2021 20:58

Could you try a purple shampoo/conditioner on it to tone it down a bit. Might be worth a go?

AramintaLee · 28/06/2021 21:00

Yeah purple toner for sure to remove the brass. Please don't bleach it again... one more go and your hair might start breaking off and falling out.

MrsSkeffington · 28/06/2021 21:04

While you guys were putting Uber helpful stuff up I dyed it medium ash! And it worked! And I love it.

I am sorry for being a bad box dye person...

Good luck to you - I bleached my hair three times in a week and within a few weeks it was breaking off every time I brushed it and this continued for over a year. I lost a good six inches to it and it has taken literally years to recover.

I really hope this doesn’t happen to you :)

@LeSquigh you aren’t wrong, it can take weeks before the true extent of damage is shown - silicone laden conditioners just scaffold the damage temporarily
