Does anyone work for Amazon?

I'm desperate for a job and there's a new Amazon near me. Does anyone have any experience of working for them? I don't disagree with you all about the moral aspect of it but I'm desperate! Thanks in advance.

The best part about DH working there (he packed orders) was the updates about the most random order he’d packed that day. It was at the start of lockdown 1 so clearly lots of people making the most of spending time at home. He sent this after one of his first shifts last April:

Some of the packages I’ve done:

  • 3 books and 6 bottles of white Zinfandel. Good lockdown box 👍🏻
  • 6 bottles of Zinfandel and some lube. Looking like a good night in.
  • A black PVC body suit, 12 condoms and some lube. Alrighty then.
  • A bottle of lube and a picture book of Dolly Parton. 😐”

He said he boxed up a lot of lubricant at the start of lockdown!

I have friends that drive for Amazon as self-employed contractors. They earn good money. £150 per day gross for less than 10 hours a day. Obviously have to pay for petrol etc but these can go down as expenses on tax returns. Both have been doing it over a year.

Thank you, but I don’t think it does. I once got an email to say I went above and beyond, but I didn’t know how.
I’ve also been told that customers haven’t received their parcels, but they won’t give you any information about who, when, or why and it could have been any delivery going back several weeks, so it’s a flawed system over both ends!

My DH works for the local council and they have a similar approach towards agency staff they hire for refuse collectors etc. They will be told not to come in tomorrow with absolutely no notice given, even after being there for a long time. Then pay the permanent staff overtime to do the work. Angry So even 'nice' employers do it.

Thank you Slimmingstar , I will keep on sending compliments just in case.

I worked in their contact centre and was able to move between a few departments before being promoted. Was offer the opportunity to set up different offices but it didn't suit me to move at the time. I loved my time there, felt valued and was sad to leave

@Cocomarine

I don’t think it’s quite that people get laid off after Xmas. They specifically get taken on for a peak period and know that. Laid off makes it sounds like they immorally tempt people out of permanent positions into their permanent positions, then lay them off. I know about 5 people who have worked for them seasonally via agency, and every single one has been quite clear: this is an agency seasonal job.
I worked in one of their warehouses... I knew we'll be sent away in January but you're hired by an agency, sign a 9 month contract. I know some people were expecting their employment to last that long. Also your contract with the agency says 2 weeks notice period when one day you'lll get a letter from Amazon giving you one week notice. The agency will say 'that's for this assignment, we'll continue looking for a job for you' and they send away their staff...
