AIBU - encouraging neighbour to move

poppingpea · 27/06/2021 12:43

to ask what are your subtle tips to help your neighbours choose to move earlier rather than later. (Asking for a friend)

Friends have annoying, nosey, noisy neighbours who have hinted they will be moving soon. She is counting the days so they can have peace restored for a variety of reasons. Please can you share your experiences or tips of helping them make that decision earlier. ☺️😂

Thanks

You can’t Confused Moving is such a big deal that a bit of “encouragement” from a neighbour isn’t going to make a blind bit of difference.

Windchimes

Not sure I’d do anything. Interfering with the ‘natural rhythm’ could backfire spectacularly I’ve thought (about similar situations). I’d not forgive myself if that happened. Stakes are too high.

RogueMnerHidesUnderABigHat · 27/06/2021 13:55

Brilliant @Dogscanteatonions Grin

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 27/06/2021 13:55

Get a cockeral? Get a massive security light that goes on with any movement?

HeronLanyon · 27/06/2021 13:56

Eh if you got a friend to put a note expressing out of the blue interest in her home - that may mean she sees it as more attractive and desired than it is which could mean she stays longer or hikes the price up unrealistically etc etc.

Drivingmeupthewall · 27/06/2021 13:58

Like the wind chimes idea.

How about a fuck-off trampoline, right up against the fence with wind chimes attached to it Grin

A delightful tinkling clanking sound with every bounce.

BlueSurfer · 27/06/2021 14:01

Tell them you are thinking of moving soon, as worried prices will drop before long, and when will they be looking at it, as you don’t want to have both houses up for sale at the same time in case people assume it’s a negative reason.

ChargingBuck · 27/06/2021 14:14

poppingpea, your friend's only option is to deploy the Scooby Doo haunting strategy. It will take a few sleepless nights, & dedicated commitment to spook-organisational logistics, but it's guaranteed to get those persky neighbours out pronto ...

I will happily move for £1 million.

reachedtheendofmytether · 27/06/2021 14:56

You can borrow my kids for a few nights if you like? Be sure to put the one with 2.30am night terrors against any joining walls.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 27/06/2021 14:59

I’ve wondered the same for our neighbours as they’re taking forever to clear the house, let alone get it ready for sale.

However, sometimes it’s better the devil you know. Whoever they sell to could be worse. Instead it’s better to be nice to the housing gods… and maybe sacrifice a lamb or whatever it is that will appease the housing gods.

Perhaps they don't want to sell and enjoy making you suffer ;)

I've certainly had a few interfering neighbours I'd like shut of. I've one either side of me now and if they disappeared in a puff of smoke and took their moaning ways with them ...

pilates · 27/06/2021 15:41

You can’t and strange to think you can.

Techno56 · 27/06/2021 15:42

Get a Ring door bell, make sure it's set to ring outside as well as inside. Turn on the feature that makes incessant jingling every time someone opens the front or back door too.

We lived in our house for 19 years and had no intention of moving, after 6 months of WFH and the neighbours new ring doorbell we started considering it and were gone within 12 weeks 🤣

pasturesgreen · 27/06/2021 15:45

New neighbours might be better, but they also may be much much worse, just saying...

Anything annoying you do as a neighbour to encourage your neighbour to leave will put off anyone decent and ensure you get a twat of a new neighbour.

ChargingBuck · 27/06/2021 16:10

Thank you @Mrsmadevans :)
