To be spooked by this ?

I've just been to put my washing out.Sunny day, clear blue sky, a few fluffy clouds.
I was idly watching a 'plane as if flew into a cloud, it wasn't high up and I could hear it clearly.Now I know this sounds really weird, but it didn't emerge from the cloud and the noise from the engines just stopped.I stayed watching for 5 minutes but nothing.It's quiet where we live so nothing like traffic to mask any noise.I wondered if it could be atmospheric conditions but still couldn't see the 'plane.What's going on ? No it was a big passenger jet.
I'm still puzzled by it hours later.I usually watch them until they are out of sight, but the fact it didn't emerge was a bit strange.I'm sure it didn't crash as would have been on the news.Thanks all

I would guess that it altered course very slightly so that the sun reflected off it in such a way to make it "disappear". I saw it in reverse recently, a tiny light like a very bright star on a sunny day that suddenly became a plane.
