To think this neighbour is a nightmare

DH runs a gardening/landscaping business with one van that’s usually parked outside our house at night. Sometimes someone else is already parked there so he parks further up the road. He also has a guy that works for him that parks outside the house for 10-15 minutes a few mornings a week to grab tools from the shed at the side of the building.

Last week, DH got a complaint from the council saying that he was running a business from home and causing a disturbance. He was shocked as we are really friendly with our neighbours either side and have done things like pay to upgrade the fence on both sides, helped with their gardens etc. Anyway, when he spoke to one of the neighbours about it they said that it was someone who lived further up who had complained about everyone on the road (there’s also an electrician with 3 vans coming and going but they’re very quiet and respectful, a building materials seller who I agree can be quite noisy, someone who fixes cars, so lots of self employed people).

This neighbour who complains has 3 cars parked outside their house at nearly all times. When there’s no space, DH sometimes parks his van near their house (or in where one of their cars would normally be if they’re not in). It’s a free road, there’s no designated parking, but it’s clear this has wound them up enough to try and get us in trouble with the council.

AIBU to think they’re just a nightmare?!

FWIW DH responded to the email answering all the questions and the council were happy that he isn’t running some kind of gardening empire from our shed, but it’s still really pissed me off.
