No reply from manager, not sure if I still have a job

It's a job working with people at high-risk from Covid.
Initially I needed to isolate as my partner tested positive but I had no symptoms.
So I told my manager that I was having to isolate from X to X date and they asked me to return to work on X date which I confirmed.
I started getting symptoms a few days later and tested positive, 10 days since my symptoms started has increased my isolation period by 3 days now.
So I've had to text my manager and say with regret that I can't come back on X date anymore, it will have to be X date now. I've sent them all proof of my result and isolation notes.

Anyway no reply for nearly a day now. Nothing, I've sent it by text and email.
Would take a second to reply.

It's on a rota basis so not sure what days I'm in, if any.

I guess they don't want any Covid at the establishment, they claim they've never had a single case there. It would be very foolish of me to go back early and risk infecting very unwell people that I work with, I know this is not ideal but what can I do.

Anyone else faced this?

Why aren’t you sure if you still have a job?

Covid and isolation are not sackable ‘offences’

Drumstick38 · 23/06/2021 09:41

They're very short staffed but I know there's nothing I can do.
I haven't been there for long so I know they can dismiss me for any reason they like really.

I would try and call them.

Drumstick38 · 23/06/2021 09:41

I know they aren't but the fact that the boss hasn't replied. They might decide I'm not worth the hassle and just get rid of me.

Can't you ring them? You'd presumably get an instant answer. I think they'd be on a pretty sticky wicket to sack you because you had Covid.

Drumstick38 · 23/06/2021 09:42

I will keep trying, they rarely answer which is annoying but I'll keep going.

Call your manager!

Drumstick38 · 23/06/2021 09:43

I feel like they could have replied by now if they wanted to and that I shouldn't have to keep chasing them.

I would leave it until 2 days before you are due to go back. Assuming it's a care setting there is b-all they can do about you isolating and they will be short staffed (and probably mildly exasperated at having a staff member off with Covid but knowing it's not your fault either).

gurglebelly · 23/06/2021 09:46

How long ago did you send the email? Don't forget that Managers can also get sick or take a days holiday

sneezypants · 23/06/2021 09:47

They're probabaly just on a day off, why all the drama?

TheBobJog · 23/06/2021 09:48

They might not realise that you're expecting a response?

MadeForThis · 23/06/2021 09:51

You have notified them. You can't be sacked for having Covid and isolating.

Wait until a couple of days before you are due to go back and contact them to ask for your rota.

SheepyLamb2 · 23/06/2021 09:51

But they may be busy, you said it's very busy at the moment. They could have a day off. They might be waiting to hear back from others on the rota changes before they get back to you and confirm??

MadeOfStarStuff · 23/06/2021 09:58

Why would they not tell you if you were being sacked?

Try to stop catastrophising, keep calling your manager to find out when your next shift will be after your isolation ends. They’re probably just busy.

pyjamams13 · 23/06/2021 11:16

I wouldn't worry. there probably busy trying to find cover ect. if you haven't heard anything in a couple of days just phoned in to see what shift your on when you go back.

Drumstick38 · 23/06/2021 11:17

I will try to stop worrying and give it a bit longer. In the nicest of ways she's not the most friendly or understanding of people and seems quite dismissive so not sure what to expect.
