Banks are always busier than usual

Maybe they should understand that you can't be busier than usual all the time! Or have I just been unlucky - every time I contact them.

Yanbu. Everything I've had to ring in the last couple of months has said the same. At varying times of the day, after getting through to a robot... Drives me insane

MaryBoBary · 22/06/2021 21:29

My local NatWest appears to only have 3 members of staff. It's ridiculous.

MaryBoBary · 22/06/2021 21:29

I say local - 12 miles away because they shut the other 2.

PostmanPatandhiscat · 22/06/2021 21:31

Probably coz they are closing all the branches so most people are now having to ring up or go into the few banks that are left . Barclays is shutting all of them round here .

3scape · 22/06/2021 21:36

The policy of making everything on a phone line where it's always "busier than expected'" will continue. Of course it's deliberate. Providing current accounts isn't particularly profitable so they're not likely to throw money at it.

"We are experiencing unusually high call volumes" - when I hear this I start muttering about what could possibly be unusual about something that seems to be constant??

TheSweetLady · 22/06/2021 22:11

It’s because people complain if they have to wait in the queue for more than 2 minutes. So they cover themselves by telling you this at the beginning of the call, then you have no grounds to complain if it is busy. The message will be on even when it’s not busy at all.

I’m a complaint handler for a bank 😀

I waited for 25 mins and then 40 mins today...both banks were having an apparently busy day....they need to employ more staff if they are going to continue with the wfh approach because it certainly isn't more efficient for anyone but the banks!

Next have an excellent system I wish more companies would adopt , when you call you have the option to wait in a queue or leave your number and someone gets back to you fairly quickly

I had the option to text and if no one got back to me within 3 hours I should call them. I asked to apply for a bacs service to pay our team - they had no advice for me on when a decision would be made - i offered them time scales but no they didn't have a clue literally - a week? a month? really couldn't tell...that's wfh efficiency no more deadlines, no more expectations, as Boris said - fuck business!

I know, my bank is like this too. It's been going on for several years and it's getting worse and worse. And you have to listen to several minutes of recorded messages telling you that it is possible to do this that and the other online. No, actually - the reason I'm phoning is because I can't do it online.

Instead of spending billions on computers, I wish they'd just employ more people to answer the damn phone.

Tealightsandd · 22/06/2021 23:11

It's even worse with other organisations.
And it's been going on for several years before Covid. Literally whatever time of day I've called, it's the busier than usual we don't employ enough staff message. Followed by a 40 minute wait on hold. Angry

mytwocats · 22/06/2021 23:21

Please hold, you are in a queue. isn't it weird,no matter what time you ring you are never the first.
