My son is 13 and after watching his dad be violent to me smash up our things and now has no contact with him as gone on to have a new baby my son wants to change his surname my ex dosent pay for him dosent see him call him nothing . Yet I've been told we can't change name without his permission. Does anyone have any Advice or experience on this

You could go through the court to change it or wait until he's 16 and can do it himself

My son just started using my one. U can formalise it when old enough. Or I think I have read here u are likely to be allowed to double barrel it and quietly drop the one half. Eg he is called Jack Black. U are called Jill White. He can be Jack Black-White n shorten to Jack White
