To have one "new to area, want to meet up" thread

Have name changed for this but am a regular.

I'm new to the area I'm living in and know almost nobody. I also know that there are other regular posters on here in my area. I also see frequent other posts where people say (usually as part of a wider post) they have moved and know nobody. I also think lockdown has changed people's social relationships and some people feel they are coming out of lockdown with only online networks and not nearby in-person ones.

I know there is a meet-ups board but nobody ever goes on there. So would it be unreasonable to start one thread where anyone who is new to an area or is just feeling like they could do with meeting up with some people, could just post their area and then people can arrange to meet up/get in touch if they wanted?

I think that one thread for all different areas wouldn't work. It would be too difficult for people to find people on it.

@shouldistop my thought was that if people just put their area and not lots of details, it should be quite easy to scan?

Have you tried the meetup app?

@Palavah I haven't - thanks for the suggestion. To be honest though it wasnt just about me. I just see so many posts on here that are about something else but then "I don't have any local friends" comes up. It just feels like an untapped resource where people may already be interacting with people who are nearby and willing to meet up, but they are unaware of it.

I did this on Facebook and now we have a group with regular meet ups. Best thing I did
