Stranger giving food to 5 month old

AIBU here, or am I overthinking....

Doing the weekly shop with DS1 (2years old) and DS2 (5months).

Due to really bad reflux thats not going, have been advised to wean DS2 a little earlier (tried to persist until 6months). Anyway, was explaining to DS1 about the veg that we were buying to hopefully help DS2.
Random lady comes up to us (don't know her at all) and says you need to fatten that boy up (referring to DS2 - HES 98th centile height but on 25th for weight so looks a little thin but has improved so much). Opens a pack of chocolate biscuits from her own trolley and gives one to DS1 and DS2. I took it quickly from them and explained DS2 was only 5months and we are trying to start solids etc. She did apologise and said she thought he was older. She then started telling me that sweet potatoes rot teeth and to try carrots... I just stood in disbelief, didn't know what to do or say!
I'm still a bit shocked, just don't really know what to think! Its been bugging me and I just wanted other people's views!

@GreyhoundG1rl Yep really, honestly wouldn't have believed it if it hadn't happened to me...

HollowTalk · 21/06/2021 20:56

Sweet potatoes rot your teeth - what, and a chocolate biscuit doesn't?!

This 😂

You handled it well, no one in their right mind gives food to strangers kids.

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/06/2021 21:14
Shock
vodkaredbullgirl · 21/06/2021 21:31
Hmm
BlueSurfer · 21/06/2021 21:32

I hope you kept the two biscuits and ate them.

Sadiecow · 21/06/2021 21:34

🙄

Holly60 · 21/06/2021 21:35

Shocking behaviour. Are you ok OP?

Sadiecow · 21/06/2021 21:35

Was this in Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco's, Aldi or Lidl.... I need context!

Cryalot2 · 21/06/2021 21:36

She meant well, who only knows her circumstances.

S111n20 · 21/06/2021 21:38

How strange !!

Eleoura · 21/06/2021 21:40

Utterly bizarre!

My friends MIL advised her to tie a tight band around her babies stomachs to get the wind out- because they used to do that in her village!!! Was this an older lady? Information and medical advice changes, but this is just so odd.

PaperMonster · 21/06/2021 21:41

How bizarre! Crazy lady!
(My OH’s friend tried to give my then three month old cheesy wotsits cos he’d given them at that age to his two and they were ok, but at least I knew that nutter)

ContextIsKey · 21/06/2021 21:42

I would go batshit as my son has allergies and that chocolate biscuit would bring him a world of illness.

Titch1993 · 21/06/2021 21:44

@amylou8 I'm probably more upset about that Grin

@HollowTalk have to admit I didn't really know what to say to that!

@Wellpark I did think maybe something along that line after shed gone on her way, was an older lady, and I thought maybe it was a generation thing giving biscuits (MIL a stickler for this) , but now I'm wondering...

@Eleoura yeh it was. And that is Shock about the band!

Titch1993 · 21/06/2021 21:49

@ContextIsKey DS2 has a severe milk allergy as well as reflux so it did take all my willpower not to chuck it back at her. Blush

So, a woman offered your children food from a packet you saw her open?

Why are you bothered? You said no, she apologised. What's the issue?

firstimemamma · 21/06/2021 21:54

People are bonkers sometimes op! Just try to put it behind you.

Once when I was breastfeeding my baby ds, a lady approached me and said "after the baby is done, can I have a go?" 🤢😳

SirenSays · 21/06/2021 21:57

People are nuts. My ex nearly choked to death as a baby because some random old lady gave him a chip to eat whilst mum was busy ordering food and had no idea.
