To think the car hire company cloned our credit card?

Had some issues with our car so hired a car for our holiday today, we have hired a removal van from them before but we paid chip & pin last time using our debit card.

This time he was asking us lots of odd questions about where we're going what holiday site we're staying at, at the time it seemed normal now we're just thinking whether he was just trying to see whether we're going to be out of town.

Anyway this time he took the card and we don't even know how he took the payment but it went through, he didn't give us a receipt or anything this time.

Baring in mind we have never used this credit card OH has just always kept it in case of an emergency. So anyway yesterday OH had three transactions come through from a Greene king pub, we rang Halifax and they said it was all done over the till not through the app.

We're driving our self insane, we don't want to go pointing the finger yet until we get some proof, but surely it's him right??

Is that pub local to him?
I don't know how long cloning takes, how long did he have the card in possession? It's likely to be him if you say that's a card you never usually use.
Can you go and ask him for a receipt as he didn't give one

They can't see what pub it is and we have a few in our town the bank only shows the head office details. He had it for a a good minute or two.

There are two extremely dodgy hire places local to me.
It's known they are approachable with shady deals.
If you only used the CC with the hire place then either it's him or he sold the deets on.

Has the CC definitely only been used at hire place? (Legitimately)

You've cancelled the card, right?
