Blinds - what would you do?

Blindleadingtheblind · 20/06/2021 23:51

Ok, so I ordered one set of blinds for my spare room on Boxing Day last year from an online made to measure company.

I got the confirmation email to say order was being processed and payment was taken etc. They gave me an estimated delivery date of end of feb. So far so good.

End of feb came and went and I could see from tracking my orders progress that this thing hadn't moved so naturally I called the company to find out what was going on. I was told then that the material wasn't in stock and they would update the order when it was.

We get to April and I check my order status again and it has been updated to say it will be ready end of May. I later got an email from the company saying they are having difficulty getting the material still and how do I wish to proceed. I emailed back and said yep, just go ahead when material arrives, I'll wait.

End of April comes and I again check my order status again and see they have put the dispatch date back to July!! So I call the company again and the lady says it's a stock issue with that material but when it comes in, order will progress pretty quickly blah blah. So I said okay and left it at that.

I then had an email some time in May saying unfortunately the material had been discontinued, did I want a refund or choose another material at same price point. By this point I was fed up so replied back asking for refund. A few days later the money landed back in my account.

Checked my emails today and apparently my order (cancelled) is currently out for dispatch and I have a tracking number and everything. Wtf??

The last update said the blind was out for delivery on 19th june which was updated at 2.30pm yesterday! Estimated delivery date 23/06/2021.

Should I phone them and tell them or just put this down to their error and say nothing? Bear in mind I've had my money back already.

YABU = tell them they've cocked up and arrange to have it sent back
YANBU = they've cocked up but you've got a free blind so hey ho 🤷‍♀️ just keep it (assuming it is going to come)

Bump

BigusBumus · 21/06/2021 07:12

There's no way I'd tell them! They've messed you about for months and made an error and you get the blind after all.

Blindleadingtheblind · 21/06/2021 07:14

But it's kind of stealing isn't it? My conscience feels dishonest but then I keep flipping back to "well they did mess this up"

OP posts:
Bonitalazenia · 21/06/2021 07:14

I would consider it a bonus!

spotcheck · 21/06/2021 07:17

Do the right thing.

When ( if) they arrive, I would check to see if they are indeed the ones you ordered, and then call the company.

They may not be yours- in which case, give them back.

Or they may be yours- if you want to keep them, you should pay for them.

Come on, you know this.

spotcheck · 21/06/2021 07:19

And yes, they messed up ( although with Brexit/ pandemic, then it probably isn't their fault)

Even if they did mess up, does that mean you have to be dishonest?

PandasCatsWolves · 21/06/2021 07:22

Be honest. Always be honest.

If it's yours and it's made to measure they won't want it back.
They might make you pay for it I guess but then you aren't out of pocket and got you have the blind.

Wegobshite · 21/06/2021 07:34

I ordered a large storage box from Amazon
It was supposed to arrive within 3 day
Then it said 3 weeks
Then it was stuck in customs for another 2 weeks
So I asked for my money back ( it went back on my Amazon Gift Voucher)
Got my money back 2 days later the storage box arrived
I kept it and said nothing 😂 it looks lovely in my garden

tealandteal · 21/06/2021 07:46

Is it blinds2go? We ordered from them a few years ago but ordered recently and they were terrible. Expected in Feb, no sign, so asked in March where they were to be told they had been delivered. No dispatch email or anything. Dispatched in May and a pair of short purple curtains arrived, instead of long orange ones. I emailed them and got a patronising reply about that's why it's important to order a swatch and colours look different on the screen! They posted me a swatch so I could compare. Then my actual curtains arrived randomly. I still sent them a picture of the purple curtains next to the swatch. They said to keep the purple ones, which were clearly some other poor persons order.

Theboywiththearabstrap · 21/06/2021 07:48

I’d tell them, there is no way a made to measure blind is any good to them now so they will tell you to keep it anyway. Then you can enjoy your free blind knowing that you were up front about it.

20viona · 21/06/2021 07:50

No way don't tell them.

FTM91 · 21/06/2021 07:53

I had this with a bunch of baby clothes I ordered from Lindex. After 30 days and no sign, I cancelled the order and got a refund (as per process detailed on their site) a couple of months later the order arrived on my doorstep anyway and I kept it.
I'd say it's their problem not yours.

SquashMinusIsShit · 21/06/2021 07:55

@Wegobshite that has happened with us and Amazon a few times, I've never sent anything back when I haven't needed to!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/06/2021 08:02

It could well be another mistake so I wouldn't say anything at all and if they do arrive I wouldn't say anything either.

Blindleadingtheblind · 21/06/2021 08:11

I'm fully expecting nothing to turn up despite the tracking number etc. 😂 OR I will get something completely random like the purple curtains mentioned above.

The blind turned up, it is definitely what I ordered. I have checked my bank account for the refund they gave me just to make sure I wasn't seeing things. It turns out I paid £76 for the blind and the refund they gave me at the end of May was for the value of £45. What the actual fuck?? It's my own fault for not checking they had refunded the right amount. Never using this company again, they are useless.

OP posts:
Bahhhhhumbug · 21/06/2021 21:14

I was firmly in the honesty camp till your last update. Either keep it and consider the £45 less you've paid as a goodwill deduction or contact them and say they've arrived but say no £30, no blinds

Blindleadingtheblind · 21/06/2021 21:21

I think at this point I don't wish to deal with them anymore so sod it, I'm keeping the blinds. I never even noticed the refund amount, I just saw that my bank account had been credited and left it at that. Makes me wonder if they have cancelled someone else's order though but refunded me the price of their goods 🤔 all the while going ahead with my order.

I'm so confused by this company, I won't ever use them again. And yes it was blinds-to-go. Wasn't going to shame them but now I don't care.

OP posts:
AOwlAOwlAOwl · 21/06/2021 21:23

What a pain OP. I've always had good service from Blinds2go - our windows are covered in stuff from there!

They've cocked up at every stage haven't they. I would keep the blind and pretend the £45 was a discount for their appalling customer service.

Blindleadingtheblind · 21/06/2021 21:26

It's been a catalogue of errors. I could understand things potentially going wrong had I ordered tons of stuff, but this was a straight forward, single blind for a smallish window.

And sorry, I mean blinds2go. Hope there's not a decent company out there called blinds-to-go I've just shamed instead 😂

Floralnomad · 21/06/2021 21:26

I’d tell them , as it’s made to measure they may well tell you to keep it anyway .

Floralnomad · 21/06/2021 21:28

Can I also highly recommend Newblinds , we’ve had lots of dealings with them and they have the best customer service team .

tnetenba · 21/06/2021 21:33

It wasn't Monteray Mist 50mm with tapes that you ordered was it? I know you're saying the service has been shocking but I'm missing one blind and they haven't had stock for months, willing to take my chances in their customer service again (my order was fine).

They didn't miss one blind out, I just thought I'd buy it at a later date like a fool.

Blindleadingtheblind · 21/06/2021 21:40

Tnetenba- mine were 50mm in rosewood grain. Was told material had been discontinued a few months after order was placed. Lo and behold it appears not.

Its up to you if tou take your chances with them but I have read many reviews on trustpilot and theres quite a lot of bad ones.

I'm so surprised, we've ordered from them 4x and they've been brilliant,in fact just about to order again for the kitchen....getting a bit worried now!
