Aibu to expect my car deposit back on a car I ordered 2 months ago that I've now found out isn't going to be available. I've been told by dealer I'll have to just choose a different one from stock as new orders are being put on hold due to semiconductor shortages. I said I was happy to wait, but they've said it's not an option. Can I just say I want my money back and look elsewhere? Dealer is saying I'm in a contract now, so have to choose a different car, but surely they've broken the contract by not being able to supply what I want? Thanks for any advice

I would ask for this to be moved to legal.

What you are saying sounds entirely reasonable but you would need to read the contract in detail to see what it says.

Yanbu, the dealer has broken the contract. Talk to Trading Standards.

Spoke to dealer this morning, and said I want to end contract now and get my deposit back as they aren't fulfilling their end of the deal. I understand there's a issue with the manufacturing side of things and am sympathic that it's not their fault, but I'm not happy to compromise and make do with a vehicle I didn't choose. We make it quite clear when ordering that we wanted that specific one, down to when he said did we have a second colour choice we categorically said no. If they thought it might have been as issue to get that car, something should have been said then. They've now said I need to give them more time to source the one I want, and I just have to sit tight, not knowing if this car will ever appear. I was happy to wait initially, but now feel this is just a ploy to drag it out until I'm so fed up waiting I'll take whatever they have. In the mean time my current car is depreciating in value and I can't sell it until I receive a new one. I told them I want to find a new "in stock" car elsewhere asap before I lose anymore money on my current car, but obviously they aren't interested. He's said I need to give him until the end of the week to source something. I'm at the stage now where even if they do miraculously find this car, I'm not sure I even want it anymore as I feel frustrated and let down by the whole process. Since we agreed this deal in April my car has lost approx £1800 in value, and if not sorted by September it will fall dramatically when the new number plates are out and it's technically "a year older".

Sorry, main point that I kind of missed was that I was told Friday that I categorically wouldn't be able to get the car I ordered, as none being made etc, but now I've said deal is off, I've been told no, I need to give them more time to "find one"... I know they aren't going to find one (was told it was impossible to get one on Friday), so there just keeping me in limbo for nothing. What do I do!?
