Am I crazy to consider doing this?

I applied for a new job and got it, didn't think I would! My problem is I have an ongoing illness (cancer) that may require further treatment (crossing fingers I won't have to).
My current job comes with 20 weeks of CSP and if I took the new job I would be on SSP. Also there would be a chance I could be off sick during my probation period if I took the new job.
My current workplace is very stressful at the moment and the staff turnover is high.
Am I crazy to take on a new job at the moment?

Do you have a partner? What do they think? Are you able to manage on ssp if need be? Is this new job one you really want and and they aware you may need time off? All things you need to consider. Hope all goes well for you Flowers

Honestly, I think you'd be a bit crazy. Any stress in your current job needs to be compared to the stress of worrying about not being able to pay your bills if the worst happens.

Not crazy. Well done you! Go for it. Does your new job know about your diagnosis? I think that's key. Wish you all the luck in the world with your new job and your health x

Hi, I'm sorry about the cancer, I've been through a lot of treatment myself. I would not take this job, you need to know you will be paid. I would keep looking.

Personally, I wouldn't take on a new job. My husband had cancer just after I moved to a new job, and it was awful not having compassionate leave entitlement. You should play it safe until you know more, imo.

I’m sorry about your health problems, but unfortunately yes, I think you would be crazy at this moment in time. Don’t underestimate the value of proper sick pay.
