13yr old DS birthday present... "I dunno"

TwinsAndTrifle · 19/06/2021 17:21

Help required before I tear my hair out. What would you get a boy who was about to turn 13 for his birthday, when the only response you have had, for the prior month is:

"Any ideas for your birthday?"
"I dunno"

"Is there anything your friends have that you'd like?"
"I dunno"

"New trainers? These ones look a bit ratty"
"Yeah...well...dunno actually"

Any ideas gratefully received, or success stories of presents you've given to boys this age? If you were to get trainers, what are the "in" ones to get.

Also, DS has ADHD, so the idea of getting him (next to) nothing as he's not voicing anything he wants, would not be a life lesson, but an absolute disaster.

Thank you x

Money or vouchers then he can get something when there's something he wants :) no point getting stuff just for the sake of it.

igivein · 19/06/2021 17:26

Something to ‘do’ rather than something to ‘have’?
Go-karting, paddle-boarding, hawk walk - whatever might float his boat.

MsMarple · 19/06/2021 17:29

Cash for when he makes his mind up? An activity thing - like go Ape? Or a Snow dome place or something?!?

Passthecake30 · 19/06/2021 17:31

What does he do in his spare time? Gaming/drawing/sports?

TwinsAndTrifle · 19/06/2021 17:35

He does like to draw, but has full set of sketch pads, pencils, felts, pastels etc.

Activities, he's completely not interested.

He wouldn't know what to do with a gift of money...he's quite visual, so I need to give him an actual tangible present.

Yes, money in his savings account for him to spend when he does think of something he wants.

Perhaps get something small such as a book, art materials, or whatever, so he has something on the day, but no point in spending money just for the sake of it for something that might not be used.

HailingTaxis · 19/06/2021 17:37

Drawing tablet? Various ones at different price points.

HailingTaxis · 19/06/2021 17:38

I mean there ARE various ones at different price points. I don't mean you should get him a variety Grin

angelaEhen · 19/06/2021 17:38

Graphics tablet to do drawing on the computer

DameAlyson · 19/06/2021 17:39

Oh, cross posted.

A subscription to something? A magazine about something he's interested in?

Passthecake30 · 19/06/2021 17:41

Has he ventured onto brush pens, fine liners, manga etc yet?

What about a light board (for tracing)?

SnapAndFartAllDayLong · 19/06/2021 17:43

Hi! What about a drawing tablet if he likes to draw? Is he into gaming at all?

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 19/06/2021 17:43

My DS is a similar age and is thinking of an Apple Watch for his upcoming birthday.

Trainers apparently you can’t beat Nike Air Max 90s. That’s what him and all his wee mates are wearing.

TotorosCatBus · 19/06/2021 17:43

My similar aged boy likes PlayStation vouchers so that he can download games.

He's not into clothes but he always like hoodies and sweatshirts. The Adidas site has a sale on right now iirc and I'm guessing you'd know what kind of colours or styles he'd like. Mine likes muted colours with small logos or just the stripes

Shoes are hard without taking them to the shop. Do you know what his friends wear? I think my sons friends generally wear Nike AirForce

terraclutter · 19/06/2021 17:57

My son will be 12 this year and is desperate for these trainers. Which he's not getting. Maybe for his birthday. Maybe something like this. They must be on or my son wouldn't ask so he must see other kids wearing them.

Lotsachocolateplease · 19/06/2021 17:59

I got my ds14 a hammock for his birthday! He loves it.

terraclutter · 19/06/2021 17:59

Does he have Air Pods? My son loves his Air Pods although they are bloody easy to lose 🙈

Spied · 19/06/2021 18:03

Current trainer trends I've found my ds (12) gazing at longingly are the Nike bubble-type as pp suggested.
My ds would also be happy with a hoody.
Last year a basketball and hoop went down well.
Pop vinyl figures?

RolyPolyBatFace · 19/06/2021 18:09

Pop vinyl figures

iPad mini

Buy a cheap hamper and fill it with loads of snacks, drinks, Pringles etc and wrap it up

Copic markers

WeAllHaveWings · 19/06/2021 18:11

By 13 if ds had nothing in particular he wanted he got money in his bank account to spend later. As long as he got a homemade chocolate cake on his birthday he was happy.

SirenSays · 19/06/2021 18:11

APipkinOfPepper · 19/06/2021 18:14

Does he like reading? All my DS13 asked for this year was books, so that’s what he got, plus some chocolate and a new hoody. He was pretty happy with that!

delilahbucket · 19/06/2021 18:18
