AIBU to feel suspicious

I have questions. I'm not on UC so have no clue about this stuff but I've got someone staying with me at the moment. He was down on his luck so I offered help but he's been here 3 weeks and has not had any money in that time to buy food etc. His UC was due he said on the 22nd but he told me just now that he has had a call from UC this morning to inform him his new pay date will be the 30th.

Now, my gut says this is BS but I wanted to check the following if anyone knows?

  1. Are Universal Credit telephone lines open on Saturdays?
  1. Would there ever be a reason UC would phone someone on a Saturday morning(ie today) to tell them their payment due on the 22nd would now not be paid til the 30th?

AIBU to feel like I am being lied to here?

Is it a new UC application or has he been on it for a while?

pepsicolagirl · 19/06/2021 11:44

He has been on it since at least march as far as I know

I don't think uc can change payment. If anything if your payment date falls on a weekend it gets payed on the Friday. And not open on a Saturday

I told him I didn't believe him. He has just apologised and admitted he lied about his payment date. I've given him to the end of the month to find somewhere else

Glad you got the truth. Did he say why he lied?

Oldraver · 19/06/2021 14:27

So he wants to hang on to his payment and you to keep bank rolling him ?

I'd kick him out now
