To be upset that my sibling didn't wish me a happy birthday?

I wouldn't say we are close close, we have an 8 year age gap between us, he still lives at home whereas I'm out in the world, with a child etc (21, 29). However, we get along fine when we do see each other and we spend christmases etc in each other's company.

However, he just didn't wish me a happy birthday last week. I'm not fussed about cards or presents. I get he's a 21 year old and has more important things on his mind than his sisters birthday but I'd of thought my mum would of reminded him at least. A little 'happy birthday' message would have sufficed. I always make the effort for his bday, however, I do understand that at 21 I probably did much less so.

Not sure if I'm being overly sensitive. AIBU??

I would be upset too. It’s rude and thoughtless. At 21 he is probably on your social media so would have seen it on there. It takes two seconds DS to write happy birthday. I would message and tell him he’s upset you.

YANBU that was thoughtless. I think 21 is a weird age. He really should be old and mature enough by now to carry out basic courtesies like wishing his sister a happy birthday but if he's still living at home he may still be stuck in self absorbed teenage mentality. He'll probably grow up eventually (although maybe not as fast as he should). Don't take it personally (but you're not at all unreasonable to be put out).

Neither of my brothers have been that bothered about birthdays. Some years they've remembered and made an effort. Mostly not. Doesn't really mean anything
