Covid and new job

Boyfriend who I live with tested positive today after being ill, I am vaccinated and have tested negative.
He of course has to isolate and I guess I have to too?
Do I have to isolate even though I have a negative result? If so, is it just 7 days for close contacts? Find it all confusing.

Next thing is my job. I've been working at a care home for a month, I don't have a contract yet. They are really short staffed, they're gonna be furious but what can I do?

Plus since I don't have a contract, o guess I won't be paid by them nor will I be eligible for any sort of sick pay?

No angry answers please, I'm just asking questions. Im meant to be at work tonight.

Yeah, you have to isolate for 10 days from his first day of illness (I think).

DD had only been at work for three months but they paid her when she had covid and I think they pay for isolating too.

Phone them!

Ok, thank you :(
He isn't getting paid for this and if I don't we will be screwed, so can do without any "suck it up" type comments from people not financially affected.

It fucking suck. I'm so sorry. When DD tested positive, there was a link if she needed financial support. She didn't, so we didn't pay much attention. It was way down at the bottom of the email you get. See if your boyfriend can get anything.

You do have a contract, you are working there for money so there is definitely a contract in place. Something on a piece of paper is evidence of a contract but it isn’t the contract.

What it sounds like you could be missing is a “statement of written particulars”, which your employer was legally obliged to provide on your first day of work. Are you sure you did not receive this, it might not have the word “contract” on it.

You should be entitled to receive pay inline with either statutory entitlements or company policy - your missing piece of paper has no bearing on that.

Thanks for the replies and sorry to hear about your DD that's a shame.

Yes I have never received anything written from the employer, no statement of anything sadly.

Having just been through the isolation system it’s 10 days from either the onset of any symptoms or his positive test. Day 1 is day after the test. You are recommended to get a PCR day 3-5 after his positive test but regardless of your result being negative you must complete the 10 day isolation.

Star81 · 18/06/2021 16:03

Oh a please do not go into your work today. You need to phone and tell them what’s happened. They will know all the protocols.

Government isolation grant available maybe £500 I think. See if you can look into getting this each ?

Are you and your boyfriend paid by PAYE ie tax and national insurance deducted before you are paid ? If you are you should be paid for the time you need to isolate.
