I'll keep this short and sweet as I'm fuming

A friend of mine has recently succumbed to the MLM world and at the same time decided to homeschool her dd. Great...good for her!

But EVERY BLOODY TIME we meet up I get the speech that includes, you would love it! You can be your own boss babe! Spend more time with your kids! Enjoy every moment...love the life you want to live...blah blah blah

One of these days I'm going to scream!
No I DONT want to be my own boss!
No I DONT want to spend every waking hour with my kids! (sorry, I love them but I enjoy my job too!)
I DO enjoy every moment already

Why does she not get this or am I going to have to spell it out for her!!?

Oh gosh if she’s into MLMs there’s nothing you can say to her tbh. She’s been brainwashed.

Mreggsworth · 17/06/2021 22:25

Mlms have these manifestation beliefs, that if you talk about financial freedom, living life on your own terms, enjoy every day like its already happening, then the 'universe' will make all these things happen.

Sounds like she is trying to convince herself more than you.

jakeyboy1 · 17/06/2021 22:27

Haha.

Has anyone also noticed how the amount of people offering life coaching/ counselling/ career advice also seem to have a side hustle of an MLM? Literally the biggest turn off when looking for advice!

MadeOfStarStuff · 17/06/2021 22:29

If she’s been sucked into MLM there’s really no reasoning with her.

Unfollow on social media and limit meet ups til she comes to her senses (or refuse to get into #bossbabe type discussions)

mrsplum101 · 17/06/2021 22:29

MLMs are like cults, you can spell it out to her but she'll probably give you a smug, pitying look and think you're crazy for not wanting anything to do with her pyramid scheme bullshit.

The hilarious thing is if everyone DID become their own boss babe and joined, there would be no one left to buy anything. MLM people constantly disparage the 9-5 lifestyle at the same time as needing those of us with regular jobs to buy their crap. Unless of course the products are secondary to the recruitment, which is clearly the case and clearly a fucking pyramid scheme. But they'll go blue in the face telling you it's not Grin

Out of curiosity which one is it?

Worstyear2020 · 17/06/2021 22:30

YANBU

I like 9-5 jobs too, stress free, little bit of challenge but not enough having to work or think about it outside of work hours.

Break from children is good for me and them (in school).

I think you just have to admit it Smile

AtrociousCircumstance · 17/06/2021 22:32

I bet those kids are getting an impressive education at home with her Hmm

BabyofMine · 17/06/2021 22:33

It’s funny one of the few thing I actually like about my 9-5, low skill job is that it’s also low responsibility and I can switch off at 5 and it enables me to spend all my time outside of work 100% focused on my child (well not 100% but you know what I mean). Whereas my friend who is self employed stays up till all hours, always has her work phone interrupting etc.

MakeAWhish · 17/06/2021 22:36

Oh. I hate this. It's Arbonne isn't it 😬
Does she post Instagram videos of her dancing like someone in a lunatic asylum?
Yes. Spell it out to her.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/06/2021 22:39

Oh come on boss babe, let’s smash these goals, be your own CEO, take endless videos of being outside with your kids #todaysoffice, you need another stream of income, #sidehustle…..Grin

Slipperfairy · 17/06/2021 22:49

You forgot that actually, anyone who works for a boss is already in a pyramid scheme. At least with magic beans, you're working for yourself and having loads of fun along the way. And don't forget Fripays, where you can post pictures of everyone earning 3 figure sums.

These type of brainwashed MLM bots are unbearable. @slipperyfairy is right with the hashtags they tend to use. Also #makingmemories
#businessmom
#lovinglife
There is one on my Facebook peddling some kind of weight loss drink type of stuff. She's a nice lady but by Christ! It's constant updates of:

Inbox me Hun
Then a photo of a woman who is also part of her team saying "super proud of this one, she's smashed her target"

Panaesthesia · 17/06/2021 23:02

Cut her off. People like this do not see you as a friend, only as a target. She can join her cult of saddo nutcases, and you can move away while she babbles to the next sap.

Slipperfairy · 17/06/2021 23:03

There's a really interesting article on...Refinery , I think, about the mlm culture. The magic beans one that looks like victory is on there. Apparently there are issues around food standards, so they can't officially sell juice. They just post lots of pictures of it.

lotstolose1 · 17/06/2021 23:12

She's not a friend IMO, she can't be if she's trying to rope you into the wanky money making scheme she's stupidly a part of. Apart from she's making no money, only the ones at the very top of the pyramid are.

Longtimeagonow46 · 17/06/2021 23:13

There's also a Scentsy rep who tries to push stuff on to the mum's at the school gate at my DC school. She's backed off a bit now but was an absolute pain in the arse for a while !!
