You wouldn't give their child glitter.

Obviously lighthearted but I thought I was going to be a "Fun Mum" and bought DD1 a load of glitter when they were a toddler. In the instant the first lid was popped I knew I had made a massive mistake and vowed to never let glitter into our house again. But I couldn't bring myself to throw it out because environment so it took years of occasionally dipping into it to eventually, finally, be glitter free.

Then enters my DSis who so generously gave my children a bumper glitter pack this week...for no reason other than that she secretly hates me perhaps?! So I'm now stood in a kitchen which has had an explosion of glitter, having just scrubbed my children's hands to try to stop it travelling elsewhere, and am seriously wondering what counter attack I will launch on my DSis.

So
YABU - Chill out, what's the issue with glitter? It makes your life sparkle.

YANBU- you should never buy glitter for someone's child because it is a form of torture.

Glitter is the stuff of the devil. I wouldn’t let it within a mile of my house, ideally. And it’s very bad for the environment, apparently.

AllHallowsEve14 · 17/06/2021 16:11

Yabu. I don't mind glitter, sequins can fuck off though!

GrolliffetheDragon · 17/06/2021 19:22

We have glitter. Never had any sort of glitter explosion. I heavily supervise its use though.

Not that I'm claiming any sort of perfection, I've had to clean poster paint off the ceiling. Really the paint has generally been more of an issue than the glitter.

Biblionerd · 17/06/2021 19:27

You need to get the kids to make a HUGE glitter bomb card for their aunty as a thank you for the gift. Get that shitty glitter posted, first class, back to her home 🤣

Crunchymum · 17/06/2021 19:31

Glitter went on our banned list along with slime, Sands Alive, Bunchems and any kind of children's make up / nail varnish.

All banned due to a very urm creative DC2 who caused mayhem with them all. Bunchems resulted in about 4in off her hair.

Sceptre86 · 17/06/2021 19:36

My kids got given a 24 pack of plasticine. I made a mental note to return the favour as dh's cousins dd gets older. Yanbu, last time the kids were crafting with glitter ds had glitter in between his toes.

TheWeeDonkey · 17/06/2021 19:57

Our very first Christmas together now DH had just started his first office job so I brought him a briefcase and put some more smaller gifts and glitter inside (just for the fun of it. 23 years later glitter still falls out whenever he opens his case 😆

This is total evil genius. Remind me never to upset you, Biblionerd
ScottishNewbie · 17/06/2021 20:55

YANBU and I agree with @Biblionerd

Rubytinsleslippers · 17/06/2021 20:58

Glitter is the herpes of the craft world. It never really goes away.

Blueballinthegarden · 17/06/2021 21:00

Drum kit for DSis’s kids for Xmas Grin but definitely agree with a beautiful glittery thank you card in the meantime.

TaraR2020 · 17/06/2021 21:03

I don't get this, I love glitter, we always had it as children and never any issues with glitter mess - what do you people do with it? Throw it around and dance naked to it's glitteriness??

Blueballinthegarden · 17/06/2021 21:14

I’ve had more nightmares with kinetic sand tbh, blue stains and bits EVERYWHERE!

Duchess379 · 17/06/2021 21:22

I got sent a birthday card full of glitter. Literally took me months getting it out of the carpet 😆😆

Faithtrusts · 17/06/2021 21:37

Thanks for the inspiration for my wonderful cough sister in law's kids birthday presents ... glitter craft sets.

Three years old and glitter... why did I not think of this ? 🤣

This is EXACTLY what I need to do Grin genius!

Good to know about the kinetic sand, I was thinking of getting some...maybe I'll include that as an extra gift to my glitter bomb card.

TBH sequins, little stickers with paper backs, jewel stickers etc would all disappear forever if I had my way.

I always used to get my kids to make Christmas cards for my in-laws that were covered in badly glued glitter!

I never had a problem with it.

SilverGlassHare · 17/06/2021 21:41

I once read about a woman who got a bit of glitter in her eye and it got infected and she actually lost her eye. So that’s proof positive glitter is the devil’s work.

Biblionerd · 17/06/2021 21:43

🤣🤣 You're all welcome, just never buy me glitter and we will all be safe!

Scarby9 · 17/06/2021 21:46

I do love the fact that for decades afterwards bits randomly reappear on your left cheek.
A friend's dad gave us a lift to a Christmas party. I wore my new glittery slinky dress from the TK Max sale. Safe to say that his car looked as if Tinkerbell had passed through until he finally sold it, despite hoovering and paid for valeting.

But you basically just described my daughter's approach to craft. I would gently tap the top, she shakes it around like a maraca.

@Elisannah I love the image, I'm going to buy my 3yo niece some glitter tomorrow Grin

NameChange74567 · 17/06/2021 22:13

YANBU. Glitter, sequins, playdoh, slime, sand, I hate it all.

FinallyHere · 17/06/2021 22:21

Tub of Lego type blocks.

Their ability to travel and appear on the floor anywhere you walk in bare feet is awesome.

Don't ask me how I know.

@Biblionerd 's idea is better

@Biblionerd wins the internet today.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 17/06/2021 22:35

You need to mix it with tubs of glue or paint! It's the only way Grin
