Stansted parking costs

honeyandbutterontoast · 17/06/2021 07:22

Need to park at Stansted airport next week for a day. Knew the parking wouldn’t be cheap but £74 for one day?!! The cheapest I can find is one you get a bus transfer to for £50, but then need to factor in that time on top.

Presuming some of their car parks are closed due to Covid, but even so. AIBU to think that’s a lot of money for one day??

(And if anyone knows of a cheaper car park please let me know Grin)

Interestingly, as BarbaraofSeville said the same amount of time but in a couple of months comes in at £50, there are also more car parks then (some cheaper) so I’m guessing some of the car parks are closed at the moment and that is bumping up the price.

Will add looking at parkonmydrive for the areas mentioned rather than randomly parking near the bus stop :)

We always use stay and fly which usually includes breakfast too.

Pay to park in bishops Stortford town centre. Get the train direct to airport. You can keep topping up parking on your phone. It will cost you hardly anything. Don’t park on people’s streets[/quote]

Why shouldn't she park on peoples streets if it's unrestricted parking with no controlled parking zone, road markings etc?

I'm not saying it isn't inconvenient for residents - but given the choice, are you telling me that if there was a free of charge car parking space, you would drive to the town centre of another area local to the airport, and top up an expensive metered charging system on your phone, just to spare the ire of a resident you've never met?

Interesting.

Menora · 17/06/2021 09:13

Sorry problem with parking on someone’s street is that you don’t know the layout. 133 and 42a buses BARELY manage to get round the estate at all, there are a couple of really blind dangerous corners where people park and you can’t see. People leave their cars there and fuck off on holiday causing aggravation for everyone else.

I usually use hotel airport parking. Cheaper and safer
Yesyesnonoyesyes · 17/06/2021 09:14

Hmm it doesn't bother me and I think the neighbours are pathetic moaning that someone has parked outside their house on non restricted roads because they don't want to use their drives.
As you live there you will know that the parish council tried to help and bring in restrictions to stop it but no residents wanted it and voted against it! Clearly just wanted to moan.

In all my years living here I've not heard of anyone being blocked in, just that someone has parked on the street outside their house.
I wouldn't park on the main entrance roads but the side streets to the back I don't see a problem.
I've got bigger problems in my life than someone parking by my house when I (and most houses) have 2 private spaces.
OP is not going to be gone more than a day, get a grip.

That is aggravating for sure - but mainly because people are parking inconsiderately in the first place, in a desperation to save money and grab the "spot" they heard about online .

Areas like this need CPZs to sort them out sadly- it's the only way to regulate the behaviour. Telling one person at a time won't change anything.

Menora · 17/06/2021 09:16

@Ginuwine

It is a loophole that people want closed. Two years ago a residents association talking about it got so heated people were throwing chairs at each other. You cannot do this in Takeley or BS as they have permits areas. Canfield is just so slightly further and so therefore accumulates hundreds of cars a year doing this. Not one lone car.

Menora · 17/06/2021 09:20

@Yesyesnonoyesyes

They don’t tho do they? They park on the long stretch of road near the school. Or near the nursery. The bus struggles to get round the corners. My ‘side street’ has no parking at the fronts and people park on corners and churn up all the grass. I did want permits!

My kids walk these streets and it becomes unsafe with all the blind spots. I’m perfectly entitled to object to this if I want to - I can’t physically stop anyone, and no I haven’t done it and wouldn’t do it

I think you'll find the school mums and local residents are the real culprits of disgraceful and dangerous parking but blame airport parkers.
The airport hasn't been used properly for over a year now and there's still shit parking, people blame the airport parkers when the reality is that its local people doing it.
I did mention my post would annoy the neighbours but trying to help the op out.

Menora · 17/06/2021 09:29

Stansted used to have 20+ million travellers per year. If even 1% of those use our tiny village to park for free.. how many cars is that?

Menora · 17/06/2021 09:30

@Yesyesnonoyesyes
We have had all the streets being dug up for months, that’s not helped. Everyone is WFH. But parking has been much better with the airport closed IME

Menora · 17/06/2021 09:33

If you had sent a PM I would understand. But you wrote this on a public open Internet forum 🥴

OddBoots · 17/06/2021 09:33

I live near another major airport and we have had loads of people parking up for weeks and blocking the roads, in the past couple of months it has become a resident parking zone and single and double yellows in the dangerous spots, we have to pay an annual fee but that seems a small price to pay.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the people who have got used to parking here for holidays arrive to see the new restrictions, I hope they leave enough time before their flights for a 'plan b'.

PhillipPhillop · 17/06/2021 09:38

Stansted parking was always more expensive, inconvenient and user-unfriendly than Gatwick and Heathrow but looking at the options now it seems a lot better! The meet and greet looks the cheapest and most convenient and would be what I'd use if I fly again. Hope you find something

Ozanj · 17/06/2021 09:43

I see you're one of the ones that make excuses for the lazy entitled residents.
It's nothing to do with the gigaclear works or wfh it's people wanting to park as close to their homes as possible with no care for anyone else.
Walk past the school at drop off or pick up, it's awful and dangerous - that is local people doing it. That's just one example, you have people parking on corners, double parking on roads so you can't get through - again local people and their visitors.
The problem here is local people.

DynamoKev · 17/06/2021 09:43

This is one of many reasons I avoid Stanstead. Beautiful terminal building, everything else is shit.

Menora · 17/06/2021 09:56

If the residents are just as bad, are you just posting this on a public forum for revenge? I don’t park on the street, not all of us do this and as annoying and bloody inconsiderate as the residents are, the answer to this is not to advertise to thousands of people where there is free airport parking. It makes a bad situation even worse.

Brainwave89 · 17/06/2021 09:58

Travel from Stansted a lot. Try holiday extras they are good. The mid stay parking is good (10 mins by bus). Meet and greet is a great option with ten minutes to the check in desk but it is more expensive. Another option is to use the JustPark app and rent someone's drive a short distance away. A short taxi ride, or bus will then take you to the airport, and you car is not on the road. I have used this at Stansted and Gatwick. It is cheap and works well.

Topseyt · 17/06/2021 09:58

I live near to Stansted. It has always been notoriously expensive for car parking.

If we go on holiday from there it is cheaper for us to get a taxi there and back.

I once read an article in our local press that said it was cheaper to park an aeroplane at Stansted than your car. I can well believe that.

Use the local stations as you are planning. Or price up the on-site Radisson hotel (probably still expensive though).

Couldn't agree more.. don't understand the sense of it!

OlivePenderghast · 17/06/2021 10:16

I would pay to park in Elsenham station car park and get the train from there to Stansted.

Parking in Bishops Stortford Town Centre and then walking to the train station would add about fifteen minutes which OP has indicated is not ideal considering the early start anyway. They would be better off parking in the station car park if using BS station.

SomeCatsLikeCheese · 17/06/2021 18:09

Agree if using BS, there are only a couple of car parks in the town centre which allow you to park for longer than 5 hours and they are all a walk to the train station.
